A Toasty Run, CocoaVia in NY, Return of Jicama Chips and Sharing is Caring

Instead of getting up early and getting out the door by 6:00 am as planned, I took things super slow this morning. It just happened. So did some backyard chicken chasing by the boys and their cousins at the crack of dawn. I’m sure our neighbors really love us.

Oh yes. The boys had their cousins over for their first official sleep over last night. I’m fairly certain everyone had a good time, but not too certain anyone got much sleep. That’s how it’s supposed to go though, right?

I had to do a few mama duties before heading out this morning and made sure the boys were set with snacks and hot cocoa.

It wasn’t the easiest to get motivated this morning, but it was my only chance this weekend to try to fit in a long run.

I had to go back and read my own post about surviving the long run to help motivate myself for this one. Ha.

When I finally got out the door I had my coffee and pre run sandwich in hand.

Whole grain bread, egg whites, coconut oil, cinnamon and half a banana.

Total side note, but for some reason I only like to cut my sandwiches diagonally. I don’t like to cut them down the middle. Is that weird?

It took me awhile to get into the run mentally. I actually think it took me the whole first half. I was definitely trying to talk myself out of it for awhile.

Since it was later and it was already hot outside, I took it really easy and was super conscious about staying hydrated. I just wanted to do the miles comfortably and not have any issues due to the heat or my foot.

It was the most beautiful day though. Here’s a couple pictures from my run. I stopped quite a few times to fill up my water bottles, listen to a voice mail message and take a few pictures.

I doubled up on the Halo action today with a sweatband and a visor. One just wasn’t enough.

The last mile felt particularly long, but it just made getting back to the car and putting my feet in the water that much better.

I sucked down that Vega recovery right away.

Long run done. It took me 3:28. I don’t even know or care what pace that is and I stopped my GPS once when I was really taking a long time at the water fountain. Today was really just about seeing how things went and they actually went pretty well.

Something that didn’t go so well though was my bright idea to add a raspberry Emergen-C packet to plain iced coffee once I got home.

Looks good, sounded good, but it was just weird tasting. I’ll stick to my other Emergen-C recipes for now.

(If you haven’t entered the GIVEAWAY yet, do it here!)

Looking ahead…..

Today was a little test run. The San Francisco Marathon is in two weeks. I’m playing it day by day until then. I truly love that race, but I really want to make sure I make it to both The Kauai Marathon and the TCS New York City Marathon, so if I need to skip a race, it will be this one. I’m going to keep an open mind and just see how the next couple of weeks go.

Speaking of the TCS New York City Marathon, I finally got my act together and did a little travel planning. I’m already getting excited about the trip. Holy cow. What’s even more exciting is that CocoaVia is sponsoring the race. Yippee!

I’ve been taking their supplements for over two years now.

I used to use their supplement packets in all kinds of drinks (like this tea and this tea).

I’ve switched over to the capsules though. Currently I take two of these daily.

CocoaVia® supplement is made using our patented Cocoapro® process, guaranteeing the highest concentration of cocoa flavanols in a dietary supplement.

Who knew cocoa had so many benefits, right?

I think I’m going to have Mom start taking these too. She may not be coming to New York with me, but at least she can get in on the cocoa flavanol goodness. Ha ha.

They’re currently having a Buy One, Get One sale that I just noticed on their website.

Pretty cool. Use coupon code BuyOneGetOne online here.

Thought I’d pass this I saw on the CocoaVia twitter account also.

Love it.

Moving on to a couple other things I love.

I forgot to show you these whole grain finds from Trader Joe’s.

I’m really liking both of them and that whole wheat lavash bread makes the best cinnamon crisps ever.

I just ate some with some SunButter.

I’m pretty sure these are going to become a daily occurrence.

Roasted jicama chips made a comeback this week.

I did something different and after slicing them I microwaved the thin slices for 3 minutes on a couple paper towels to get some of the moisture out.

It works like a charm and they came out better than usual.

I did the whole jicama nachos thing with some roasted mahi mahi (from Trader Joe’s freezer section) and topped it with this new spicy guacamole find.

Good stuff.

Here’s a few more things to share before it’s officially the weekend.

My friend Larisa is cohosting a new radio talk show starting tomorrow.

You can listen to the show online here and they have a really fun contest going on this week also to win a very cool Six Pack Bag- tag a favorite healthy recipe on twitter or instagram with #TravelFit #FattoFitRadio #FunwithFood and one winner will get a bag.

Also, my high school friend is a finalist for a contest to win an ice cream truck party. The picture with the most Facebook “likes” wins. If you feel like helping her out, here’s the link to vote for the picture.

The boys just left to go get their free Slurpees. Yes, it’s THAT day. 7/11. Have you gotten yours yet? I’m skipping out this year, but my all time favorite Slurpee combination is cherry and coke.

Do you know what other day it is today?

Yep, thanks to Chick-Fil-A’s instagram I learned it’s Cow Appreciation Day. Who knew?

Lastly, only because I just ordered some for myself, you should know that Bath and Body Works is having a buy one get one 50% off on their Wexler Skin Care products.

I love the 3-in-1 Day Cream and the 3-in-1 Eye Cream. Anything to help these darn wrinkles. Sometimes I go all out and buy the night cream too, but right now I’m just using some cheap Oil of Olay nighttime stuff from Costco.

Anyway, just wanted to pass this along. The only time I buy it is when it’s buy one, get one 50% off. Here’s the link to the sale.

Sharing is caring friends.

Have a great Friday night and weekend.

We have another family campout planned. No plans on going any further away than the last time, but Costco is providing cheap wine, Papa John’s is bringing the pizza, Grandma and Papap are bringing the s’mores and Uncle Kevy is bringing some fishing gear for the morning adventure. Good times.

What are your plans for the weekend?

Anything cool you want to share (Slurpee combo, sales, food, tips, etc.)?
