He’s Back and Some Running Motivation

Happy Friday!

It’s so weird that a week ago we were in route home from Kauai. I still want to write about all our adventures and the fun stuff we ate there, but one of my favorite family pictures was this one.

I got this email yesterday.

Okay, Boston Marathon, let’s do this again.

Last night I roasted the heck out of a bazillion brussels sprouts.

Naturally, like the smart runner that I am, I piled them high, topped them with non dairy “cheesy” sauce and had them with a chicken salad with humming balsamic dressing and some toasted no grain seedy Silk STUFT bread made into garlic bread on the side.

Definitely not a smart pre-run dinner, but oh well.

What WAS a good thing to do last night was find out that the new season of The Biggest Loser just started. How did I not know about this?

I only watched the first half hour or so. You know, just long enough to make sure my man Bob showed up.

Doesn’t he miss me?

Did anyone watch it? I’m not sure how I feel about the new trainers. It always takes me awhile to warm up to them.

I slept through my alarm this morning and got a late start.

I did take a few minutes to enjoy my coffee though.

I’ve been loving this jam lately.

This morning it went on my egg white sandwich.

Good stuff.

So let’s talk running really quick. For the second day in a row I ran outside just close to home.

Today’s run was quite a bit longer and hotter than yesterday’s.

It’s almost time to retire these Wave Inspire 10s. I keep meaning to track how many miles I put on a pair of shoes, but then get lazy about writing it down.

By the time I finished today it was 88 degrees.

It was toasty.

So for the second day in a row I ran up this pretty long hill close by.

I actually used to push the double stroller up this hill. What the heck was I thinking?

When I first started really running though about 7 years ago I dreaded this hill ever single time. In fact, I couldn’t run up it. I had little goals for myself to just make it a little bit further each time before I would walk the rest.

There are these marks on the street that I always used as motivation.

This one in particular is about a third of the way up the hill.

It kind of looks like a dinosaur or something doesn’t it?

Well, it was my goal back then to just run to this mark and then I could walk. It was so hard for me just to get to this part of the hill.

The next mark I made a goal for was this one that is about two thirds up the hill. Shark fins.

Then this one that reminds me of a wolf is the one that I really worked towards running to since it was pretty much at the tops of the hill.

It took a really long time to fall in love with running and to get from walking the majority of the hill to running it. But, oh my goodness how life has changed.

My goal then was to just be able to run four miles without stopping. I never in a million years thought I would be running marathons. I thought those people were nutty.

I was never a great athlete growing up either. I was always just average. My friends were all great, I wasn’t. I always had to work extra hard to get where I wanted to be. The awards I got were “most inspirational” or “best attitude”. I never got MVP or anything.

I did soccer and gymnastics. I never was a runner. I ran with my friend every so often in high school, but that was about it.

I just think that if you really want to try something it’s never too late to go for it. Obviously it’s going to take a lot of time and be hard, but the rewards are so worth it. It’s never too late to come up with new goals. It’s also a lot easier to start with small ones and just see where they lead you.

Yes?

Yes.

Gosh, deep thoughts two days in a row. What is up?

Here’s a funny articles about some habits of passionate runners in case you’re over the deep thought stuff. Ha ha.

Healthy Habits of Passionate Runners

Have a great rest of your Friday!

Are you working on any goals right now?

Were you an athlete growing up?

Did you watch The Biggest Loser? If so, what did you think?
