american icons

Happy Memorial Day weekend! I don't know about you, but this time of year makes me feel more American. To me, Memorial Day means that summer is right around the corner and there's nothing like America in the summertime, right? Soon we'll be celebrating the Fourth of July, eating barbecue, watching fireworks, and getting into the American spirit.
Turns out I'm not the only one with America on their mind. This month, Macy's kicked off their American Icons celebrations and held events all over the country!

I was lucky enough to attend the American Icons event here in Southern California and it was a blast. Hosted by Mario Lopez (yes, AC Slater himself!), the celebration featured American food, American designers, and lots of red, white, & blue!
Things kicked off with the USC Trojans marching band!

Next, Mario Lopez took the stage to give a rundown of the festivities.

Mario hosted a fashion presentation of top American designers like Michael Kors, Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger.

After the fashion presentation, there was lots to see and do around the store including amazing treats, fashion stations for each designer, root beer floats from BJ's, free makeup consultations from Benefit, fun music, a photo booth, and much more!

The best part was getting a chance to meet and chat with Mario Lopez (*swoon*)! He did a great job hosting the event and it was so nice of him to sign autographs for his many adoring fans!

I asked Mario what the title American Icon means to him, and here's what he told me:
"An American Icon is someone you look up to who is patriotic and symbolic of what this country represents."

Mario's answer made me think of my favorite American Icon: Rosa Parks. She's been my personal hero for as long as I can remember and I respect that she loved this country enough to try to make it better. Courageous, intelligent, and selfless, Rosa Parks left a legacy on this country that will last for generations to come.
Thank you Macy's for helping us celebrate what we love about this country!
