Chanel Makeup Hauls

I got these Chanel makeup hauls last August so I apologize for not having done this review sooner. Things have been extremely busy for the Upshaws lately, so please be patient with me.

Also, this is the first time I’m doing a review for anything Chanel. I admit that I do not own a lot of Chanel makeup products because I used to be very intimidated by the brand. I used to think that their products might be insanely expensive so I decided to stick with my usual brands. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that not only were the prices reasonable and generally still affordable, but the quality of their products more than justify the price tags.

I don’t intend to make a very lengthy post on this so I will get right to the significant points.

Chanel Perfection Lumiere Long-Wear Flawless Fluid Makeup

“OMG!!! I might have just found my HG in @CHANEL #PerfectionLumiere foundation!”

That was my exact thought (and statement, as posted on Instagram) the first time I tried this liquid foundation by Chanel. The first noticeable thing about this foundation that anyone would undeniably be impressed with is the clearer, brightened and smoother canvas it creates for the skin. Yet it still looks like your natural bare skin (sans the flaws, of course!).

“Effortless to apply, with seamless blendability for a naturally flawless effect, this breakthrough foundation is the ideal all-day, everyday formula – suitable for all skin types in a diverse range of 20 shades.” (Chanel)

“PERFECTION LUMIÈRE controls every detail of a perfect complexion. Its invisible yet perfect correction of all types of imperfections and its “multi-faceted” radiance, colour, comfort and matte finish create a perfect complexion. Universal shades, an easy application, a light texture that glides on seamlessly, adjustable coverage: perfection has never been so simple.” (Chanel)

A tiny drop of Chanel Perfection Lumiere

…partially blended into the skin

Behold, Chanel Perfection Lumiere, thoroughly blended into the skin

Notice how this product disappeared on the skin as though it wasn’t even there! I bet you couldn’t even tell where my bare skin ended and the Perfection Lumiere started, huh. Yet, my pores became less visible and the skin appeared more evened out. It didn’t feel the least bit greasy either when touched. Really! It looked and felt as though it wasn’t even there! Now, THAT is tough to beat!

Now, some women find the Chanel Perfection Lumiere heavily scented. It actually is if you try to sniff it from the bottle, and while you’re in the process of spreading it all over your face. However, once it’s blended into the skin, the scent gently fades into a soft floral fragrance. It didn’t bother me all that much but yes, I would have preferred an ultra mild, clean scent instead of something perfume-ish — but that’s just me.

After testing this product using different methods of application, I concluded that the best way to apply this makeup on is by using a stippling brush. You may use a regular foundation brush or even a sponge, but in my experience and from what I have personally seen, applying it with a stippling brush is the perfect way to achieve that airbrushed finish.

Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush

“The touch of colour and radiance. Offers makeup effects from very natural to very sophisticated. Used as a simple touch of colour, it gives your complexion a healthy glow. As a professional tool, it shapes and models your face (cheekbones, browbones, forehead, chin, along the nose). Manufactured by a process exclusive to CHANEL, the compact and silky texture of JOUES CONTRASTE gives easy application and subtle blending. Highlighting your cheekbones enhances the youthful appearance of your face. For the eye zone, choose a satiny tone to soften and rejuvenate this area.” (Chanel)

The protective cover keeps this blush clean and prevents particles from scattering all over the case

It is baked so that means it can withstand the impact from accidental falls and won’t easily break apart

Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Candy on the skin

I got mine in the No.13 shade or “Candy” — a versatile shade that goes very well with lip colors having pink undertones as well as those with coral or peach undertones. So it saves you a lot of money to have one versatile blush than to have different shades to compliment your eye and lip color, right?

Chanel Rouge Coco Lipsticks

“A modern interpretation of classic creme lip colour as an homage to the rich life and legacy of ‘Coco’ Chanel. Lightweight lip colour glides on for easy application, and features a Hydratendre complex to help soften, soothe and condition lips – even boosting their ability to hold in moisture – for a plumper, smoother and healthier-looking appearance. A range of wearable shades with full-coverage finishes, from matte to pearl to soft shimmer.” (Chanel)

Aside from these two colors being just so pretty (Sentiment was a shade of brownish pink and Chintz, a shade of peachy pink), the Rouge Coco lipstick felt so good on the lips! It was creamy enough that it glided on very smoothly on the lips but didn’t leave a greasy or sticky feel. It had just the right amount of shimmer to highlight the lips and I think it would be the perfect finishing touch for achieving that sophisticated, alluring look. It also didn’t dry out the lips like other lipsticks would have (those that leave the lips looking chappy or feathered after a couple of hours). This product didn’t have a good staying power though. It was so easily wiped off so you might want to consider using a lip stain as a base before putting this on.

Trying Out My Chanel Makeup Hauls

So for both these looks, I wore the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Long-Wear Flawless Fluid Makeup and the Joues Contraste Powder Blush. I wore the Rouge Coco in Sentiment for the photo above and Rouge Coco in Chintz for the photo below. The photos were taken from two different days, at different times of the day, and different lighting conditions so it might not show you the exact shades of the colors used. I just hope that you can still see the quality well enough.

Conclusion

I therefore conclude that the Chanel products I showcased here are perfect picks if you’re going for the nude or natural makeup look. They are all great for all-day-everyday use as well. Most importantly, the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Long-Wear Flawless Fluid Makeup is the most perfect base for any look because it does look and feel like second skin while giving enough coverage to hide the imperfections. Its flawless, satin finish is perfect for the “no-makeup” look, while it can also handle a reasonable amount of highlighter should you prefer a dewy, more luminous finish. The only negative thing I have to say about this product is that although it claims to be “buildable”, it has a tendency to look dry and cakey if you’re not careful. Just a small amount should be enough in laying an even, flawless foundation and with the Perfection Lumiere, I must say, a little does go a long, long way. For parts of the face that require additional coverage, you should use a good concealer.
