Basic Eye Makeup Application

This content has been made available from Myla Upshaw through her Official Website & Blog at MylaUpshaw.com. The original content can be viewed here: Basic Eye Makeup Application

The following set of instructions was taken from my recently published makeup video tutorial on Youtube.

The video tutorial, which you will also find at the end of this post, was a step-by-step demonstration of what I consider to be a Basic Eye Makeup Application Technique. Super easy. Super simple. Anyone can do this – and I mean ANYONE – I guarantee (even those who think they’re not so good at blending colors)!

Thank you so much in advance for watching the video! Don’t forget to watch it on HD (720p) for better viewing quality. If you haven’t yet, please don’t forget to subscribe to my Youtube Channel.

As always, thank y’all so much for your support, Guys!

Products used for the look:

MAC Paint Pot (Painterly)
Smashbox Eye Shadow Trio Palette (Digital: Naked, Marble, Bordeaux)
MAC Satin Eye Shadow (Krisp)
MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil (Engraved)
Lancome Hypnose Star Waterproof Mascara
Shu Uemura Eyelashes

“Makeup For Beginners: Basic Eye Makeup Application”.

1. Start with an eye primer or eye shadow base. Apply it all over the eyelid, the brow bone, and lower lash line.

2. Get any trio eye shadow palette.

3. With a flat eye shadow brush, apply the lightest shade by pressing it on to the eyelid. Extend this color up to the brow bone. (If you’re using a shimmery color, just stick with the eyelid for now. We’ll highlight the brow bone later.)

4. With a fluffy eye shadow brush, apply the mid-tone eye shadow just above the crease line and underneath the brow bone, using a “windshield wiper” motion. Don’t worry about blending the colors just yet.

5. With a clean blending brush, work the mid-tone eye shadow into the crease, using the same “windshield wiper” motion. Starting from the outer corner, work your way in (toward the nose bridge). Then blend this color with the first color that you applied on your brow bone.

6. Get a small flat eye shadow brush and apply the darkest color from your palette on the outer corner of your eyelid. This is when you’ll have to create that “Outer V”.

7. Using the blending brush again, blend this color in toward the center of the eyelid, into the crease, and then up to just above the crease, where you applied the mid-tone.

8. If you want to intensify this color, just repeat this step, using a damp brush this time. Repeat the blending process – paying close attention to the edges – until you achieve the desired effect or gradience.

9. Using a small concealer brush, apply concealer from the outer tip of the lower lash line to the tip of the brow tail. This line will serve as your guide on where your eye shadow should stop. In other words, your eye shadow SHOULD NOT GO BELOW this line.

10. Gently pat the concealer on to the skin to soften the appearance of the line.

11. Mix your mid-tone and your darkest shade together and apply it along the lower lash line, starting from the outer corner, stopping at about two-thirds of the way.

12. Get a very pigmented shimmery white or gold eye shadow. Using a small flat eye shadow brush, apply it on the inner corner of the eye (around the tear duct), on the remaining one-third of the lower lash line, and on the center of the eyelid. Apply very lightly on the brow bone as well, just under the arch.

13. Get a clean blending brush again, and carefully blend the edges in with the rest of the eye shadow.

14. Apply your eyeliner just above the upper lash line. Stay as close to the lash line as you can get.

15. Next, apply your eyeliner on the lash line, really working it in between the lashes.

16. Next is lining the upper water line (under the lashes of the upper lid), as well as the bottom water line.

17. Now is the time for you to put on your falsies (if you prefer to use ‘em). Curl your natural lashes first. Then, using a pair of tweezers, carefully place your falsies on top of your natural lashes, firmly pushing it into the lash line. To further secure the lashes in place, gently press between your forefinger and thumb.

18. Apply a thin coat of mascara to mold your natural lashes and your falsies together.

19. Apply some mascara on your lower lashes too.

20. You’re done!
