The Unlikely Place All Blacks Wear Their Undies (and it’s not on the runway)

When you get the chance to interview a handful of All Blacks who have just strutted their stuff on the runway, wearing only their undies, you have to choose your questions wisely.

So when I found myself backstage at New Zealand Fashion Week tonight following the Jockey show I decided to kick off with a simple question. I asked DJ Forbes if he wears his undies in the shower.

Okay it does seem like a bit of a random question but I have two rugby-playing sons and one thing I’ve noticed is that some of the boys shower in their undies after the game.

So it makes sense to ask the All Blacks if they do too right? Well I had to ask something and what do you ask a group of buff boys hot of the runway?

As it turns out many of the All Blacks actually do shower in their undies. DJ Forbes says: “I’ve always showered in my undies after a game or after training.”

Asked why, he simply said: “All the Poly boys tend to do it.”

I sneakily suggested that perhaps this was because they didn’t want to show up the Pakeha boys but he said: “Nah it’s more of a cultural thing really. Pretty much all of the Poly boys do it.”

I thought I should ask a sensible question too so asked how nervous DJ felt before hitting the runway in his Jockeys.

“It was far more nerve-wracking than playing rugby that’s for sure. Two days ago when I realised what I was going to do I felt sick about it. I was definitely way out of my comfort zone but it was fun.”
