Interview: Five Minutes With Millie Elder Holmes

She’s faced unimaginable tragedy but Millie Elder Holmes is a fighter who refuses to be beaten. As she prepares herself for yet another fight, this time it’s in the ring as part of the upcoming Fight For Life series, we decided to catch up with Millie to see where she’s at.

Having previously dealt with addiction and losing her father to cancer, Mille began her path to a healthier lifestyle and decided to share her journey online. She started the Clean Eatz NZ Facebook page and shifted her focus from my weight to heath conscious living. Over 36,000 people follow Millie’s inspiring page and it’s not hard to see why. Millie regularly posts amazing recipes and lots of cool tips and hints to leading a healthier lifestyle. So if you haven’t liked her page yet then whip on over and do it now – you’re sure to find it as cool as we do.

Why do you think your FB page has been so successful?
To be honest I’m not completely sure why, and it is so humbling to have so many people follow me on my journey. They are the people who inspire me, I feel strongly obligated to those who follow my page. I try to just be me and always be open and honest with people, and share my positive outlook.

What motivated you to start your FB page in the first place?
My partner Connor actually encouraged me to start my page. I had been doing the Rapid program following a high fat ketogenic diet and it had inspired me with my food. I was posting food on a daily basis and Connor came up with the idea for me to start a food-based Instagram account.

What do you hope to achieve?
I hope to educate and inspire people to be the best version of themselves possible, to love and encourage each other and to be more conscious of how they eat where they get their food from, what they use on their bodies and how they get active and exercise.

What do you do to keep fit and healthy?
I do a range of cardio, and weight training but I like to keep it fun. I often attended Zumba or yoga with my mum, go for long walks on the west coast with family, or walk my dogs.

Do you have any personal health and fitness goals?
At the moment my main fitness goal is to get fit for the Fight For Life on the 6th of December. I’m trying to put all my energy into being in the best shape for that.

What’s the best bit of health/food/fitness advice you’ve ever been given?
Get back to basics, eat how your great grandmother would’ve eaten. Whole simple foods. And try and get active three times a week.

What is your favourite food right now?
My favourite food is always eggs or avocado. I love poached eggs, I have them every day and I always have at least 10 avos in my fridge.

Do you have a favourite recipe you could share with us?
Paleo Nachos – click HERE for the recipe.

Your favourite blogs?
@Kirstygodso on Instagram, Dr Libby, The Style Insider of course, Julia & Libby, Motivate Me NZ, Leah light, Inrhispantry, Shaaanxo, Raw Till Four, Jamie Oliver, Pete Evans.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
That’s a very hard question for me right now. All the plans Connor and I had made together have gone out the window so in five years’ time I’ll still be fit and healthy, still passionate about food and wellness, and still surrounded by amazing family and friends.
