Salvation Mountain

When Kristina and I were in Palm Springs, I asked her if there was anything special she wanted to do on the trip. The first thing that came to mind was a trip to a quirky spot in the middle of nowhere. We checked out the distance from our hotel to Salvation Mountain and were sad to see it was 1 1/2 hours away. The next morning was our last in Palm Springs and we decided that even though it was quite a treck to see Salvation Mountain, that it was probably worth the extra time in the car.

On the way there, we noticed a large body of water and were THRILLED because we thought it was a beach (it was really the Salton Sea). We pulled to the side of the road and hopped out of the car only to be met with the most disgusting poop smell ever. It looked gorgeous but was DIRTY and the smell was disgusting. We giggled, snapped some pictures, and ran back to the car to continue on our journey.

When we finally got there, we realized just how amazing this monument is. It’s HUGE and incredibly complex. It’s totally awe-inspiring and completely photogenic.

Not only was it worth the drive, it ended up being the highlight of my trip.

What came after Salvation Mountain was a complete surprise.
Stay tuned for part three of our trip :)!
