Me & Gin

I’ve never been all that big on drinking. I’m certain I’ve posted about this before but I’ve been absent from this space for a while so I don’t mind talking about it again. In high school I never drank, in college I had a 6 month stint where I partied a lot and kind of hated every anxiety-filled moment of it, and since then I’ve never really been compelled to go out and get really drunk. It’s just not fun for me. As a result, I have been very slow to learn what I like and dislike in a drink. I had the pleasure of working for a restaurant group in Phoenix that employed one of the most knowledgeable and badass beverage directors I’ve ever met. Thanks to Brent, I learned that there is a whole other side to drinking that doesn’t involve excess, shitty hard liquor smuggled into dorm rooms, and that a good drink can rival a good meal any day. Through my time with the company and the many, many drinks I was able to sample during my time with the company, I discovered that a well-crafted cocktail is totally my jam. I also discovered that gin is TOTALLY my jam. Last week I was working from home and listening to my Etta James Pandora station and this fabulous ode to gin came on. I couldn’t help but laugh then immediately write a post about my love for gin. I made it a goal of mine to try my hand at cocktail creation so hopefully the pages of my blog will soon have a bit of gin-influence on them. Do you have a favorite kind of liquor? I totally ruined vodka for myself during college and have a hard time drinking it now. I love cooking with whiskey and bourbon but drinking it is not my style and tequila is fine if I’m in the mood for it. Rum isn’t something I ever really consider drinking but I used to love it during my party months so maybe I should give it another shot. Until then, I’m going to soak up this amazing song by Dinah Washington.
