Fabric Pumpkin from a Milk Jug

Last year around this time, my sister and I made a trip to Columbus to visit the Country Living Fair. It was a wonderful trip and I walked away with some of my favorite fall decor pieces EVER. My absolute favorite prize from that day were my fabric covered pumpkins that I shared in last year’s Fall Home Tour.
Since then, I’ve always wanted to make my own fabric pumpkins. With that in mind and Fall upon us, I began thinking…as I was emptying a milk jug…
The shape of that empty milk jug reminded me of my favorite type of pumpkin…the tall, slender ones. They’ve always been my favorite.
Luckily, I had a scrap of fabric left over from one of my master bedroom projects. I had used this cool orange geometric print for my bedroom throw pillows and I thought it would be so fun to use for Fall.
I’ll go ahead and tell you that my scrap of fabric was sort of weird shaped, which meant I had to really work with the fabric to get it to wrap well around the jug. I started by using hot glue to attach the first side of the fabric to the top of the jug.
As I continued around the jug, I wrapped and folded the fabric to make it fit. I used hot glue as I went.
Once I made it to the top of the jug, I trimmed off the excess fabric.
To cover the mouth of the jug and the hot glue around the top, I wrapped some rope around it with more hot glue.
Finally, I added a stick to create the stem of the pumpkin. Again, I just hot glued it the mouth of the jug and the rope.
I think it turned out cute for a milk jug pumpkin!
I love the natural look of the rope and the stick. It contrasts wonderfully with the on-trend geometric pattern.
It’s a fun little guy to use in my decor this Fall. Now I just need to make a few more in various sizes.
What other containers would be good to use? Any ideas?
