~The Smell of Christmas~

*Thank you to Thymes for sponsoring today’s story and for reminding me of the time we chopped down our own Christmas tree.

Being that I’m a person who likes quick…easy…neat…and clean, I use an artificial tree at Christmas. I always have…

…until the year I decided to get a real tree.

It was about 10 years ago. The kids were at that age when Christmas was magical. It was perfect and I decided that I wanted them to experience having a real tree. Not only did I want them to experience having a real tree, but I wanted them to experience us chopping down our own tree. It was a beautiful thought but an experience.

It was a cold, dark evening when we drove out to a local tree farm. We climbed out of our truck and were quickly given a hand saw. So we went, my husband and I wandering through the rows of trees with four children in tow.

We looked at one tree…no. We looked at another…no. They were either too big or too small. Some were too tall and some were too short. Some looked like the tree from A Charlie Brown Christmas! We wanted to have a fun old-fashioned family Christmas…with the perfect tree!

Finally, after almost a 1/2 hour of walking around, looking and debating about trees, we chose one. And then the real fun began…

…my husband sawed…and sawed…and sawed. The entire time he was thinking, “Is it too much to ask for a chain saw?!?!”

But he did it! And we had our first real Christmas tree…

…it was a lot of work…and a lot of mess…but so worth it. The kids loved it. We decorated it with only handmade ornaments. It was beautiful…and it smelled wonderful!

That’s what I miss about having an artificial tree. Sure, it’s easy to put together, no need to water it and there’s no needles lying all over the floor, but there’s also no scent. You know the one I mean…

This week, I got a wonderful reminder of that aroma from Thymes. For almost 30 years, the Thymes company has been committed to artisan craftsmanship and dedicated to deepening connections through their love of fragrance.

They sent me a box filled with products from their Holiday Collection…specifically the Fraiser Fir line. It included a sink set, reed diffuser, dishwashing liquid, all-purpose cleaner, candles and an ornament. Each piece has that amazing Fraiser Fir fragrance; a crisp aromatic mix of Siberian Fir needles, heartening cedarwood and earthy sandalwood. It’s the perfect scent for the holidays.

The packaging is gorgeous. The sink set looks lovely at my kitchen sink, but it could be used in a bathroom as well. It provides hand soap and lotion, sitting on a lovely ceramic stand.

The liquid dish soap is a great product. It has that aromatic scent and looks so pretty, you’ll be happy to having it sitting out ready to use. I truly love the packaging!

The products also make wonderful gifts. The Aromatic Candle with Wood Wick is my favorite. It would be a great gift, but I think I’ll definitely keep it for myself. It’s too beautiful to give up and the wood wick is awesome.

If you’d like to try Fraiser Fir or any of their other scents, Thymes is offering a free Fragrance Studio Sample Kit (a sample set of 18 fragrances) with any purchase of $25 or more. It’s a great way to get to experience the different fragrances, including Gingerbread!

The promo code is LQFSPK14. Feel free to SHOP NOW!

If you’re ready for the holidays and dreaming of that fresh-cut Christmas tree smell, then look no further. I’m so excited to pull out my artificial tree and pair it with my Fraiser Fir candles and reed diffuser. I can have the best of both worlds without my husband having to break his back trying to cut down a tree on a cold December night.

*Thanks to Thymes for giving me some Fraiser Fir to remind me of a special Holiday memory.
