DIY Photo Collage Christmas Wreath

One of my favorite projects of all time is the set of DIY Photo Collage Letters that I created for my daughter’s graduation party. I wanted to have a photo board at the party, but I wanted something different and special.
It was perfect for her party, which lead me to the idea of using the same concept in my Christmas decor. Why not have a beautiful piece of Christmas decor that is filled with photos of those loved ones that mean the most to us?…So the DIY Photo Collage Christmas Wreath was born…

This project is absolutely lovely and turned out amazing. It’s simple and fun to create, especially with your kids. It not only makes a beautiful wreath for Christmas, but once the holidays are over, you can give each personal ornament as gifts.

The ornaments I used were chalkboard ornaments from Michael’s. The front of the ornaments were already decorated with an outline detail, but the backs were plain. They came in a set of 2 and were in the $1 bin, which was a great deal. At fifty cents apiece, they were actually cheaper than if I bought wooden shapes and painted them myself.

I used the same decoupage procedure for this project as I did with the photo collage letters. Be sure to check out that post, because I explain a little more about the coping process for the photos and the difference between wet and dry ink.

Once my photos were copied, I cut them to the shape of each ornament.

I removed the twine holder and added Mod Podge to the back of the ornament, added the photo and allowed it to dry.

Once it was dry, I applied a layer of Mod Podge on top of the photo. The ornaments turned out great, with no bubbles at all.

I decided to add black and white baker’s twine for the ornament strings, which looks so cute with the black and white striped ribbon I used for the bow.

I personalized the back of each ornament with either a name, place or event with a chalk marker.

Last, but not least, I placed the ornaments on the wreath, added some extra greenery and my black, white & burlap ribbon combo that I’m using this year. I’ve used the black and white ribbon to decorate my white plates and on my outdoor decorations as well. I love to have a coordinating theme throughout the house.

I placed my wreath above my antique armoire that I found at a flea market in England. It sits in the hallway, in the center of the living room. Everyone who walks through the house will see it and get to take a peek at each personal picture.

On top of the armoire, I added a vintage bowl filled with black and silver ball ornaments, pinecones and greenery.

I also added one of my favorite pieces. This milk glass sleigh is another flea market find that I bought over the summer. I think it might have been $1. Isn’t it adorable?! I filled it with some little pinecones and arranged it with some greenery.

The photo collage ornaments are so easy and fun to create. It would make a great afternoon project to do with your kids. You can create your own wreath or add them to garland or obviously…your tree. They’re perfect because they’re handmade and personal.

Each Christmas should be special and filled with love. One of the best ways to do that is to create something special that shows the love and memories that you share. This DIY Photo Collage Christmas Wreath makes a wonderful keepsake that can be used every holiday. You can add to it each year and watch the memories grow…

Happy Holidays
