How To: Piecey Waves

With naturally wavy hair, I’ve always experimented with perfecting my hair’s texture through various wavy hairstyles. I remember first discovering the curling wand my freshman year of college. It was a lifesaver. Although I didn’t quite now how to use it at first, I’ve found that you can achieve a variety of looks using the same curling iron. It all depends on the size of the sections of hair you curl as well as the direction in which you curl them.

For piecey waves, the key is curling very small sections of hair (1/4 – 1/2 of an inch) and alternating the direction of each curl. My trick for adding a bit of sleek edge is straightening the hair first. For medium to long hair, I recommend using a 1-inch curling iron. Follow this tutorial below to achieve naturally piecey waves.

While some wavy hairstyles can look very done up, this style is natural while still polished. It’s versatile enough for everyday yet styled enough for nights out. Take the look a step further by adding braids, twists, or even throwing it up in a ponytail. Add a bright lip to compliment the fun and flirty vibe of the wavy hair.
