review and giveaway: furls yarn bowl

Hi everyone!

Another giveaway today, can you believe it? It’s almost like Christmas over here! :)

The kind people of Furls, you know, that company that makes those amazing wooden hooks, has kindly sent me one of their yarn bowls to review.

Now I have always wanted a yarn bowl, but somehow never got around to actually getting one. Most yarn bowls I really liked on Etsy were ceramic bowls, and as most of them had to cross half the globe to reach me, I didn’t want to risk getting a broken bowl once it got here. I even looked up some local ceramic artists to see if they made yarn bowls, but somehow it never went beyond that.

Enter wooden yarn bowls! :) Much easier to send because they’re a lot lighter and won’t break as easily!

This yarn bowl is made from Acacia wood and has been hand carved. Way cool. I ran my hand across the entire thing before I started using it, to make sure there were no rough edges my precious yarns could snag on, and there weren’t any!

Most people use yarn bowls to keep their yarn from rolling away when they’re working with it, and to protect it from dust, specks of fiber, and other things you don’t want ending up in your yarn.

I don’t know about you, but I rarely use a ball of yarn. Wait, let me rephrase. I rarely use balled up yarn ;) I usually cake my yarn, or pull from the center of a skein. When you use your yarn like that, there’s really no worrying about your yarn taking off and rolling around on the floor. So I was a little worried wether a yarn bowl would be put to good use in my house hold. Turns out; a yarn bowl is such a nice little place to put your yarn, that I use it with all my WIPs! Like this shawl I recently started; I caked the yarn but the yarn is still in the bowl, because it’s safe there! :)

So my conclusion? This yarn bowl is the bee’s knees! I use it all the time and I honestly wonder how I managed to work with yarn without a yarn bowl for such a long time ;) If there is one thing I would improve on this yarn bowl it is increase its weight. It’s a very light weight product, meaning that if you were to use it for a ball of yarn, it might move around as you pull the strand.

And now for the giveaway! Furls has kindly offered one of my readers (that’s you!) a chance to win a yarn bowl! :) Use the Rafflecopter widget below for your chance to win. (if you can’t see the widget, open this blog post on your tablet or pc, or visit this post from a browser rather than an RSS feed reader) This giveaway is open world wide, as usual! :)
