What Does “Authentic Art” Mean to You?

Recently we had an interesting discussion over on our Facebook Page about the idea of authentic art (you can read it here). It was specifically in response to an article we posted, but our thoughts on the topic ran deep, as they did with fellow readers, parents and creatives alike.

I shared my perspective on what makes something authentically creative over on our weekly Inspiration for Creative Families. In short

I believe that authenticity comes from the heart – it is that unique twist that we put on things that sets us apart as creative individuals.

But this conversation is, of course, bigger than just us. So we went to our community, we asked fellow creative mamas, parents, and makers what they thought about the term “authentic art” or “authentic creativity” and we were blown away by their answers. Thoughtful, reflective, profound. Here’s what they said:

- Mari of Small for Big

- Deborah of My Life At Playtime

- Melissa of A Happy Stitch

- Kat of Sew Chibi Designs

- Jenny of The Southern Institute

- Mari, Inspired by Familia

No matter what your definition of authentic making is, the process of art and creativity is something we take oh-so seriously, it is a consideration that is woven into each magazine we publish and each eCourse we create.
