Injury update aka turtle status

I am so over getting injured. This time I am taking it really slow which, surprisingly I am not freaking out over gaining my fitness back as fast as possible. I just feel so happy to put one foot in front of the other again.

My comeback plan:

Truthfully, I don’t have one. I am taking the scenic, relaxed, ‘I’ll get there when I get there’ approach. It’s so freeing to not put unnecessary pressure on myself and to truly enjoy the ride.

Funny how we stress ourselves out over stuff that really isn’t that important. For me, fitness is a lifestyle, not a race.

What I’ve been up to:

Friday: 1 hour of PT and a 16.5 mile ride.

Saturday: Rest.

Sunday: 40 minutes of pool running.

Monday: 30 minutes of plyometric exercises at PT and a 30 minute run/walk.

Tuesday: 30 minutes of pool running.

Wednesday: 30 minutes of pool running.

Today: 30 minutes run/walk.

Tomorrow: Rest.

A couple things:

  • My legs were destroyed after Fridays workouts so I took it slow and didn’t do any plyometric exercises that I had planned. Pool running helped loosen the muscles up and felt great so I just rolled with that.
  • I really love pool running. I think someone should invent pool running races. I would totally sign up.
  • My left hip has been a punk again, so I went in for an adjustment yesterday. The hip joint get’s stuck which reduces range of motion, then causes pain in my hamstring. It’s so weird how everything is connected in the body. Crossing my fingers the run/walk goes well today.
  • I put down the Ben Jerry’s (kinda and switched to quality protein and fresh produce. I have also been really good about taking calcium and D3 supplements. Boom!

  • A few of you asked about the belt I pool run in-it’s the WaterGym flotation belt. I really like it, but it’s the only one my gym offers, so I have nothing to compare it to.

How I’m feeling:

  • My foot feels 100% normal again. No pain or swelling or funky shades of red/purple. We have a freaking normal foot again. I thought this day would never come. Wahoo!
  • I have lost all of my stamina. It’s gone, but the fun part it building it back up.
  • I have my eye on my favorite race and I’m kinda sorta secretly training for it. But without all of the self induced pressure. One day at a time.
  • I talk about my love for pool running a lot because it has literally been my saving grace through this injury. My PT is confident that because of it, my recovery has been pretty fast. He is constantly amazed at my progress.

I think that’s about it. I hope you guys are having an amazing week!!

Any questions?

What did your workouts look like the last week?

Do you secretly train for races?
