How to use illuminators

A bit like I like to add a little shimmer and shine to my wardrobe, you’ll also find my makeup kit stocked with all manner of products designed to help me get my glow on.

I refuse to subscribe to the theory that as we age we should dim down anything that shimmers.

Poo poo to that.

Instead I have an arsenal of glow-inducing makeup products on hand to give my face a little lift … when my face needs a little lift … which is most days.

In the video below on how to use illuminators I’m sharing six that I currently have on high rotation.

They’re not the only ones I have in my arsenal and I do not wear them all at once but they represent a good cross-section of the types of illuminators available.

1. Erin Bigg Cosmetics Mineral Sheer Tint $49: a minerals-based tinted moisturiser that gives you a glow thanks to the tiny, mirror-like qualities of the minerals.

2. Ere Perez Versatile Vanilla Highlighter in Falling Star $31.95: Love that this is in a compact – it’s the perfect highlighter for any areas of the face where light hits. Natural vanilla has been used to create the scent. (not tested on animals and free from parabens, synthetic fragrances and other chemicals)

3. NARS Illuminator in Orgasm $39: Love the texture and colour of this illuminator. It has a cult following for a reason – it gives and instant glow just like the real thing

4. Jane Iredale Golden Shimmer Face and Body Lotion $38.25: This is similar to the NARS Illuminator but has more moisturising properties for the skin so I tend to spread it around a little more. (cruelty-free)

5. YSL Touche Eclat – Radiant Touch $57: Many use this as a concealer … I use it more as a highlighter over and below my regular concealer. It also has a cult following

6. NIVEA Pearly Shine lip balm $3.14 (on sale): This may be a lip balm but it also doubles as a conveniently packaged, budget-friendly highlighter.

What say you to an illuminator? Are you on board? Do you have a fave? Or – like me – is that like asking you to name your favourite child?
