I Did Not Run 20 Miles This Weekend

Like many of you, my Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and DailyMile feeds were full of 20-mile runs this weekend. If you’re running the Chicago Marathon, last week was your peak week. Welcome to your taper.

If you’ve been following along, you know that I’m registered for the Chicago Marathon. But I’ve been in physical therapy for the past … 6? weeks. I lost count. Got another bill the other day. Discovered today that I don’t have to wait for open enrollment to increase my contribution to my HSA. Planning to play catch up so I can pay those bills with pre-tax contributions. Anyway.

So I didn’t run 20 miles, but what did I do?

I met Anne for dinner on Friday. This is obviously an old picture. But it was lovely to chat with her about life lately. Afterward, due to very good timing, I was able to spontaneously reconnect with a friend who I haven’t seen in 9 months. Also lovely.

On Saturday, after my run/walk of 1:00 walk / 4:00 run / 6 times, I got to help celebrate Patsy’s first birthday! I remember when Kelly was super pregnant and we got donut milkshakes. 13 months later, that little cutie is one!

On my way home, I stopped by my parents house to go through some of the stuff I still have there. And not only did I find my CD collection (although the only CD player I have is in our car), but I found my tights! That I had replaced. Now I have 3 drawers of tights & stockings.

Totally necessary

That evening, El Esposo made a 4-course meal for his bosses and their kid (and me). It was delicious. (The courses were: fancy cheese, scallops, coq au vin, chocolate mousse.)

Don’t worry, I did.

And Sunday was our annual trip to the Vintage Illinois Wine Festival. We are now pros. Camp chairs AND a tiny table? And (not pictured) TWO grandma carts to haul it all (plus all the wine that was purchased)?

That American flag did not belong to us, but it made it very easy to find our spot. So, our fest neighbors were bigger fest pros than we were.

In running news, I had another appointment with my PT this morning, and tonight was my last run/walk on my Return to Running Plan. All I have left are three 30-minute continuous runs. My next appointment is next Monday, and he said we might talk discharge. I also asked him when I could start taking ballet classes again. (And by ballet, I mean a couple ballet classes and a session of burlesque, because even though my attractive male PT someone had me in this position, for once in my life I exercised tact and didn’t bring up the topic of taking off my clothing.) He said I could try yoga and if that went well, I could try ballet.

Did you run 20 miles this weekend? How did it go? If not, what did you do instead?
