Kelly Donlin

Style Icon: Grace Kelly

In college one of my friends always used to joke, "Kelly, can I call you Grace Kelly? Grace Kellyyyyyyy". Yes, it was a joke but a very flattering one. If anyone wants to associate me with Princess Grace they are more than welcome to at any time. Plus I love tiaras. I have seen quite a few of this classic leading lady's movies and really wish she had graced the silver screen for more than six years. But alas, she has to take over her Princess duties (a real thing) after she married Prince Rainier III of Monaco. Of the movies I have seen of hers - her role as Georgie opposite Bing Crosby in The Country Girl is really not to be missed. I know I am not alone in this because she won the Oscar for Best Actress for this role.

“My father had a very simple view of life: you don’t get anything for nothing. Everything has to be earned, through work, persistence and honesty.” - Grace Kelly
As Lydia Mag so aptly wrote, while one of my other style icons, Audrey Hepburn, played a princess in Roman Holiday, Grace Kelly played one in real life. Both her outfits during her stunning film and her outfits as a real, modern day princess I believe are noteworthy. In almost every look her hair and makeup were flawless and beautifully complemented her elegant attire of cashmere, A-line skirts, sleek evening gowns and dazzling jewelry. Another one who was taken far to soon, at the age of 52 after a stroke and car crash, take a look at some of my favorite outfits of the real-life fairytale princess:

And of course, she was just about the most gorgeous bride there ever was.
