Snowflake love

My kids are all unique. All parents think that right? I would run out of fingers if I started counting off all of the ways I think they are special and all of the qualities I hope they love about themselves. For the most part, my kids seem to be going with my “love yourself for who you are” plan but lately I have one teetering on the edge of not following my program anymore.

When I tell McKenna to put on her winter coat I see her glance to the side to make sure she’s not the only one bundling up and I’ve followed her eyes to the sparkle of another little girls sequined boots and then tried to talk her out of getting the same pair five minutes later. I know this is only the beginning. I remember this part of growing up. The part where you look to others to see what’s awesome instead of within yourself.

I would really like to stop the comparison train and throw it in reverse before she gets on but she’s too stubborn to hand me her ticket.

Thank goodness Hallmark sent me the super cute Find Me, Santa! Snowflake. Not only are the kids convinced that it’s twinkling light gives us a direct line to Mr. Claus but I was able to use the snowflake as a great lesson on why being unique is so special.

This morning, our sort of reliable friend, Jingleflower, dropped off a special Find Me, Santa! Snowflake and handed me a great homeschooling lesson for the day. We discussed how much we love snowflakes and that every snowflake falling from the sky is unique. How their differences make the sky that much more magical.

I talked to the kids about being unique and had them pick what they like most about themselves some handwriting and spelling practice. Here is what they each came up with:

When we were done, we hung up our Find Me, Santa! Snowflake on the front door and turned it on so it could do it’s second job… tell Santa exactly where to find my kiddos on Christmas Eve, each uniquely special in their own drum-playing, dog-training, Nutcracker-loving way.

Make sure to visit the Northpole from Hallmark for all kinds of fun for the kids, including Santa letter generator and where you can find a Find Me, Santa! Snowflake just like ours.

This post was sponsored by Hallmark but all thoughts, opinions and crazy children are my own.
