Moodboard // French Club for Kids

One of my most recent client projects is a branding and illustration task for a young woman setting up a business teaching French to primary and nursery school aged children. She didn’t want to go down the normal route of a basic Word document covered in ClipArt to sell her classes. She wanted something quirky but professional, that would appeal to both kids as well as their teachers and parents, and would stand out against other people competing for the same market.

Right from our first email, we clicked instantly over visuals. And when we had our first meeting, the little mood boards we each brought instantly matched up with one another.

What brought the client to me was a little practice branding project I created, Thistle and Nectar, back when I first started my move away from web design. It was one of the first times I created something almost completely in Illustrator, and my first branding project, so I was quite surprised to see someone pick up on this piece as inspiration for the visual aspect of their business.

The mood board above shows the main inspiration for the project on a whole; cute characters that could appeal to all ages, watercolour textures and calligraphic (but still easily legible) lettering.

The project is almost finished, and I’ll post the completed project here over the next few weeks.
