Chloé Is Preparing For Major Expansion

Thanks to Stella McCartney and later Phoebe Philo, I’ve always had a soft spot for Chloé so I was sad when reports emerged last year that the company was in a precarious financial position. Luxury fashion conglomerate Richemont were said to be in talks to possible buyers in a bid to sell the French brand to focus its attention on the other brands within its portfolio that are bringing more money in.

Thankfully though, it sounds like sales really picked up by the end of the year. Clare Waight Keller‘s Baylee bag spurred endless waiting lists and helped the label experience “unprecedented growth” after a disappointing first half of the year caused by production issues.

The good news is that, far from selling up, Richemont have now devised a big expansion plan for the label, which includes a new fragrance, a greater focus on jewellery and footwear and its sister label, See by Chloé and a big push into China is on the cards for the near future too.

Waight Keller has done a brilliant job since joining so maybe all the brand needed was a bit more love and attention from the powers that be because it definitely doesn’t seem to be a creative issue. See by Chloé has so much potential that doesn’t seem to have tapped into enough, too, so it’ll be interesting to see how the brand grows amidst all of the planned changes.
