Going for gold

I don’t know what it is about this time of year, but whenever Christmastime rolls around, I become such a magpie – obsessed with gooooooold. Gold ribbons on presents, gold ornaments on the tree and gold thread and sequins on my clothes, you name it and I’ll put gold on it!

And of course, this gilded obsession quickly filtered on into my day-to-day beauty routine – and has quickly become one of my most-used shades, particularly when it comes to nails and eyes.

It all started with the By Terry Crayon Khol Terrybly in Festive Gold ($34), which I have been obsessed with since last Christmas. Just run a quick swipe on your top and lower lashline and voila! you have the most beautiful festive beauty look in a matter of minutes. Similarly, if you want something slightly more budget-friendly, try the Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Pure Gold ($4.50), which offers all of the gilded metallics without the slightly extravagant price.

And if that still doesn’t take your fancy the Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette ($22) has some great options for gold eyeshadow which all look beautiful no matter what colour eyes they’re paired with.

Moving on to nails and a new and old favourite. New to the collection is the Sally Hansen Nail Polish in Game of Chromes ($7.99) which is just the most amazing gold colour – and the formula sticks around on the nails for ages. I love this stuff. Similarly the OPI Nail Polish in Golden Eye adds such a pretty metallic finish to the nails, giving the perfect hint of festivity without going too OTT – unless that’s your thing of course!

After all, who wants silver when you’ve got gold!?
