Unwinding with Skinnygirl Low Calorie Popcorn

Please tell me it doesn’t make me a bad mom to look forward to bedtime. Seriously. I love those kids, but man… I look forward to unwinding from the day with shows with British chefs and a bowl of popcorn a lot of the time. Popcorn is classic for TV and movie snacking, after all! I’d love to say that I eat half a bag… oh, but that’s so wasteful. I usually finish the whole thing. *guilt* So the new Skinnygirl low calorie popcorn flavors are kind of a lifesaver when I’m going to splurge – because they come in these smart portions, for a better balanced lifestyle.

I would love to say, “oh no, I don’t snack.” Or, “I don’t even crave that.” Lies. I want a delicious butter blend. I want that crunch. I can honestly say I don’t eat popcorn every single day – but let’s face it, most of us indulge a bit here and there. This 90 second treat – the time it takes to switch to yoga pants, basically – I can pop up a big bowl, then snuggle up on the couch for a guilty pleasure once a week, which I totally deserve after 16 hours of working, cooking, cleaning, and saying “take that out of your pants!” and “stop taunting your brother!” Yes? Of course. If you’re a parent of kids who talk back and/or can empty three shelves of the pantry while you’re in the bathroom, you understand this.

Ahhh. Even just looking at the bowl I already ate makes me feel a little bit of zen. You can see why popcorn with better ingredients is a necessity if even a photo is making me drool a little, haha.

On my last #CollectiveBias trip to Walmart, I picked up Skinnygirl’s new popcorn after I read about the snack-sized bags and the new flavor profiles. (You’ll find it in with the other microwaveable popcorn flavors.)

I picked up these two to try: classic butter & sea salt, and also lime & salt. Which seemed a little strange to me at first, but hey, if lime and salt works for a margarita, it’s worth a try, right?

And wow – it’s really good! The lime adds a lot, though it’s definitely not your typical popcorn flavor. The butter and sea salt are a little more up my alley for getting my “fix”, but it’s nice to try something new sometimes!

Anyway, I’ve got a little less guilt over the new brand, because Skinnygirl popcorn has no artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners, and it’s got fewer calories than the other brands from the popcorn aisle (just 25 calories per cup popped!) – and even if all those things weren’t true, there’s *still* that brilliant smaller bag, which means I can pop less, since I’m only going to enjoy it while it’s fresh, anyway (no guilt about wasting half a bag – or guilt about eating it so as not to waste it)!

Life is busy. I deserve down-time. I deserve popcorn. But it’s nice to cut back and eat better ingredients if I’m going to splurge, and having it fresh and ready in 90 seconds is pretty much exactly the kind of hassle-free #SkinnyGirlSnacks I need when I’m going to kick back for the evening! (Fast and fresh? Try and tell me, that’s not me. Haha. )

So what about you? Are you a popcorn junkie like me? Or do you have another kind of snack you enjoy?
