DIY Heart Clasp Wire Wrapped Bangle Bracelet

I love it when a project comes together just how I want it to. I’m so excited to share this one with you today – as I was doing some wire wrapping for another design, I had an idea. And 10 minutes later, I had this sweet heart-clasp wire bangle! It requires basic wire wrapping and shaping, but the great news is, wire jewelry is really inexpensive to make. So with one coil of wire, you can make up several bangles (hello, handmade stocking stuffers)! I’m hoping you enjoy this wire bangle tutorial as much as I enjoyed designing it.

Supplies needed to make this wire wrapped bangle are pretty minimal – especially if you already have tools!

  • 18-gauge silver plated copper wire
  • Nylon pliers
  • Round-nosed pliers
  • Wire cutters

First, cut a length of wire about 20 inches. At the center point, fold it in half. You’ll need to use your pliers to cinch it together tightly – so that the hook fits inside the heart clasp. Then, bend the very tip over to create that hook. I did need to adjust the hook size after the picture you see here, so you really don’t need a large hook at all.

Next, I curved my bracelet and used my wrist as my guide for how large to make it, but it would probably be easier if you leave the wire flat for the moment, measure down 7.25 inches, and begin forming your heart clasp. (Really, it’s up to you – I just want to point out that it doesn’t *have* t be curved yet when you begin this next step, and you may find shaping it easier when the whole piece is finished.)

To form the clasp, take a look at the photos below. Using your round pliers, make a few strategic bends in the wire, to form a heart.

Now, take the longer, unformed wire, and wrap it around the base of the heart, wrapping the two “stems” from the heart clasp together. You can see in the photo below there’s a bit of wire sticking out. Trim off the excess wire from the wrap, and the excess from the bottom.

Re-shape the wire to round it out, and that’s it! I couldn’t resist tying it on. It’s so cute, and would look lovely stacked with some other wire or woven bracelets.

You can make several bangles with just one coil of wire, making this a REALLY inexpensive project, even if you have to invest in tools to get started. I can’t wait to try a few other shapes for the clasp! A sweet little star would make for a really pretty Christmas accessory… so be warned, you may see another one coming up. ;)

Hope your week is off to a great start!
