Project Super Kid: Making Reward Stickers

Sometimes as a parent, I think I’m doing something soooo right, only to realize I’m not. Like the day you break your ankle, and your son goes into shock because mommy can’t do everything. I learned that not only does doing everything for your child make them not very self-efficient, but you also rob them of the important life lesson of helping other.

I was thankful that I had had this problem pointed out to me while my son is still young. To help him get into the habit of doing things for others, I decided to set up a visual reminder. Of course, at the age of four, everything super heroes is cool right now. So, my friend Heidi and I came up with a plan. Project Super Kid is a reward chart where children can earn stickers for helping others. Only by helping others can they fill up the chart and work your way to becoming a a Super Kid!

Heidi was so wonderful, and created this special chart (on very short notice I might add.) And, of course, you will need reward stickers. That is where I put my Silhouette to work and created some that would be perfect for my son. I chose an “E”, but you can find all the super hero letters in the Silhouette Online Store.

When you open the shape from your library it will look like this.

Select all the shapes, right click on your mouse and UNGROUP. Then you can select which part you want to delete.

I wanted my sticker to be the same color as displayed in the Silhouette store. To do this, I used a function on my computer called the snipping tool, which allows me to take screen shots of what I see on my computer. Using that tool I went into the library and selected for it to take a screen shot around the shape.

Save that image and go back to your Silhouette Studio screen and then click file in the top left corner and select merge.

Make sure you have ALL FILES selected at the bottom and click on your image file to open.

Then you can make the image bigger (clarity doesn’t matter) and position off to the side.

Now you can pick the fill color option. Click on the color picker tool and place your mouse over each color on the merged image to get that color for your design. After you have the color, select the shape where you were wanting the color and click on the color box to apply it to your shape.

Once you have each element the desired color, layer the shapes to create the same design.

Using the DRAW AN ELLIPSE tool, I drew a circle around my shape and then selected that to be my cut line.

After I had my shape exactly how I wanted it, I selected all the pieces and grouped them together, and I was able re-size everything at once.

Once I had it the size I needed to fit in the chart blanks, I just copied the image and pasted it until I had filled up the page. Go ahead and open the registration mark screen so you can put your images around the registration marks. I’m a little particular so I used the grid to place my stickers evenly throughout the page.

I hope you now have a plan for helping your kids reach their own super hero potential, and learn a few new Silhouette tricks along the way. The Silhouette Print and Cut option definitely has a lot of creative possibilities.
