A Blog That Chronicles It All

Tuesday night was one of those signs that let me know God was speaking to me.

One of the benefits of having a best friend in the same industry as me is that she will pass along my email to events that she knows I would benefit from.

It was because of her, I had one of my best nights as a New Yorker, ever.

OWN premiered a docu-series, its uplifting answer to Bravo’s Blood Sweat and Heels called #LoveInTheCity. It starred women who have been friends for over ten years: Tiffany Denee Jones, Bershan Shaw, ChenoaMaxwell and Kiyah Wright. Though it was a screening, it was a testament to faith and handwork… and Elle Varner’s words to stay strong.

Both on and off the screen.

Fashion Bomb Daily creator Claire Sulmers hosted the evening in the penthouse of the Mondrian Soho. Mona Scott Young asked why my martini glass was still full. Sessilee Lopez took a picture of Chef Roble, Arianna and I. Bethann Hardison had Arianna, Danielle Kwateng from Style Blazer and @DCFab’s Joi-Marie McKenzie in a prayer circle.

The night before I read old journal enteries. In my first hand-written offering in months, I told the Lord that I felt so far. That I felt like my previous prayers so strong and were so obviously evident in the way things played out. And now, I feel like I’ve wandered. Like I’ve gone too far. Lost my way—though I still pray.

Tonight was one of those signs. You are never too far from God. He hears you—in all things. At all times. Father God if this is just a preview of what’s to come… continue to strengthen my faith. Continue to grow me. Because I want it all, Lord. Everything that is promised to me.

OWN’s Love in the City premieres tonight, Saturday, April 12th at 10pm. I’ll be watching. I can’t wait to watch these ladies grow together in the city.
