The First Day Of Kindergarten

Hey guys!!

You know I have a full recap of the family building fun that happened over the past 6 days in Orlando–but I am still transitioning back into real life. I realized that I have spent a lot of my previous travel either going to family events, or conferences, or something else work related–that its been a couple years since I have stopped and focused all my energy and attention on the three men in my life exclusively. It was refreshing, 90% Social Media free and filled with some unforgettable moments that I can’t wait to share, and all of that is coming soon.

In the meantime, a few days (2) before we set off on the plane my eldest boy had his first day of Kindergarten!!

This day was particularly tough for my emotions as a mother, as I am learning was quite the norm (unless you had done it before–then at least you have some experience with all of the feelings).

The Pre Kindergarten Mixer

His new school was gracious enough to have a Kindergarten Mixer the Friday before the official school year started. We (the parents) were to drop off the kids for 2 hours to get to know each other through fun games and dance. Leaving was mandatory (BOO).

He was super excited about the idea of Kindergarten, so when we arrived at the school (thankful for my job who let me work from home) he was crazy happy! That was until he realized that I couldn’t stay.

He begged me to stay, just a little and I’ll be honest there was nothing else that I wanted to do. I wanted to sit with him, help him meet new people, hold his hand, be the face he could look to for reassurance–but I couldn’t and that was part of the growing process for the both of us.

When I left him (or rather when they demanded the parents leave), his face was buried in his hands and I could feel in my bones how terrified he was. I was scared too. I left him crying silently to himself, and with a ton of anxiety. I could barely concentrate on work as I was so nervous about how his 2 hours went. Thankfully when I arrived he had some new swag, he was stuffing his face with junkfood and he had made some new friends. He was smiling. I was SO relieved that he had made it through–and so had I.

The First Day

My son LOVES to get dressed up, so when he saw his new uniform shoes, tie and hat he was crazy excited.

His drop off was pretty uneventful except my heart felt like he was going to explode with you name it: fear/anxiety/excitement/nerves as I dropped him off. The nerves from Friday was gone and he ran inside without any issue. With my heart in his book bag.

An Adjustment Period

We still haven’t quite adjusted to getting ready for 7:25 AM kindergarten start time versus a 9AM start time for preschool. I have NOT mastered this whole notion of send lunch to school everyday…(I need some help y’all) remembering snacks, keeping all parts of the uniform together…and so much more. This kindergarten life has added a new layer of logistics to our everyday life. It’s a new fun adventure that I am so excited to be a part of!

How was your kids’ first day back of school? Do you remember your nerves when you started kindergarten?
