I am very happy to see the weekend. If anyone has been following along on my Instagram you would have seen that I have been to 2 States, 4 local events and a conference all since last Thursday. I am happy to say that my fitness didn’t suffer one bit, in fact it has been one of the best workout weeks in a long time.
During the first 3 months of half marathon training it was hard to incorporate strength training. My body was usually so exhausted from running that I didn’t want to do anything else. I finally feel that my body has gotten used to running and therefore I can add back in some of my favorite classes like spinning and body pump.
My grand return to Bodypump was great! I quickly realized that I would have to lighten up on the weights because I am not as strong as I was 6 months ago. Sad panda. However, it was great to be in class again giving my muscles some serious love.
After running my longest distance ever in my first half marathon then following that up with my fastest race ever in the Bedford Stuyvesant 10k I took a week off running. My body needed it and even my polar was yelling at me!
The week off was tough, it felt like a month. I was itching to run. I still went to the gym but all I wanted to do to was run. I missed it so much I even registered for a virtual race.
On Tuesday morning I put on my long sleeved Eleven By Venus tee and ran. It felt amazing! I really was supposed to do 3 miles but the fall air was so crisp and delicious that I decided I would complete my 10k virtual race. I felt great and just a little more comfortable with running in cooler weather.
Thursdays run forced me indoors as it has been raining in NY for months 2 straight days. The only cool thing about the treadmill is that I can watch Bravo the news while I run.
I’m getting really excited for the Trenton Half in 2 weeks! This is my first BIG race (in size). There will be multiple races (the half, 10k, and 5k), I’m running with BLACK GIRLS RUN! (700 girls deep!), getting a special BGR bib and Double Bling! The thing I look forward to the most is seeing folks cheer–at the Bay Ridge Half we had exactly 3 people brave enough to cheer us on in the torrential rain. Not only will there be tons of folks on the sidelines but I get to cross 2 bridges, run in 2 States and my name will be on the scoreboard when I finish in the stadium.
Could I ask for anything more?
