Friday Fitness Check-in: Training Dilemmas, Race Challenges & Double Zumba!

What is going on yall?

It has been a minute since I’ve done a Friday Fitness Check in! It’s been a very heavy few weeks honestly. It all came to a head last week when I got a call from the school says that my eldest was incredibly sick and throwing up everywhere. Thankfully the virus was gone in 2 days, just in time for his brother to get it, and as I cleaned up their messes and rubbed their backs I began to feel like it was only a matter of time before it would take me out too.

Sunday morning I woke up and felt horrible, and it hit me, so hard. I slept and slept and slept (with all kinds of fun in between). I don’t even remember Sunday. Monday I woke up to go to work and had to call in sick because my body said absolutely not. I didn’t start eating a full meal until Wednesday!

It is so weird not having an appetite for so long. Food commercials would come on TV and I would be completely grossed out. Needless to say, I didn’t eat much of anything until Wednesday afternoon when I had some pasta that was just amazing.

I have been slowly but surely getting used to the winter running life. There are WAY fewer people on the track (it was just me and another dude last friday) and the layer situation is serious. I’m not going to say I love it, but, so far I can manage around 35 degrees in the morning which is HUGE for me because I vowed I’d NEVER run in the winter. I’m a cold person by nature so for me, running in the cold is a really big challenge.

So now, after all of these fall races, I get to focus on the race that started it all! The Princess Half is in late February and I’m going back and forth on doing a full training plan for it because a part of me just wants to chill, and I already know I won’t be getting a Personal Record because my costume will be incredible and I will be stopping for ALL the pictures with characters. (all of them!) Plus I already have the confidence of finishing since I completed 3 half marathons in the fall. So must I train intensely? We shall see.

Sadly, I was not picked to run the NYC Half this year *soul cry* but I’ve already got my eye on the Rock and Roll Half in DC that same weekend! I figure I’d travel with the family, visit in laws and run a race. Not a bad consolation prize! The only tough part is that NYRR has made it incredibly difficult for me to complete the 2015 5 borough series–I’d have to run the Queens 10k, Brooklyn Half, Bronx 10mile, and the Staten Island Half, I couldn’t miss one race, no wiggle room whatsoever. Challenge accepted.

I didn’t do much of anything honestly is week as my body was simple unable. Wednesday night was my company holiday party and I had so much fun you guys. I lost my voice from singing so much, danced for 3 hours straight, and really let my hair down. It was downright therapeutic. I don’t work for a strict company so we all were able to let loose and literally dance like no one was watching. It was awesome. It was also 14k steps according to the fitbit!

This Saturday I am scheduled to teach 2 (two) full Zumba classes at 2 different locations. Someone pass me the red bull. The first one is my regular class the second one is a fundraiser for a friend. I have no doubt that I will be fine because I thrive on the adrenaline of teaching Zumba to a new crowd! Besides I love it so that helps too.

How was your fitness week? When is the last time you danced like no one was watching? Have you ever caught a bug from your kids?
