5 Things: A Clutter-Free Workspace.

I have to admit that even though I spend hours upon hours at my desk, I do have to set time aside to keep it tidy! I’m terrible; there’s often multiple cups of tea, stray vitamins and drawers rammed full of craft supplies. I’ve managed to get better at my organisation skills, and so I thought I would share my tips for a happy work area.

01. Find a place for everything. I always say this is the best way to avoid unnecessary clutter – make sure everything has a home and then you will know where all the odd bits go when you’re tidying up. I have a good set of IKEA Alex drawers that are a really handy size, as well as a bookshelf for everything else. You can really arrange everything so it looks organised yet still have your favourite notebooks, ornaments and candles on display.

02. Keep the worktop clean. I use my desk to work at, and also do crafty things at, so it needs to always have a clean tabletop or I’ll never get anything done. I tend to leave the worktop clear of nonsense so I’m ready to get my DIY on when I feel like it. Again, make sure everything has a place and then you’re more likely to clean everything up.

03. Make use of the bin. I try and bin (or recycle or give away) anything that I won’t use straight away, I also have a drawer for old tissue paper, bubble wrap and jiffy bags so I can reuse them when they come in. I also have some drawers for new products I’ve been sent but don’t need to start using just yet, which is a good idea if you’re a blogger and tend to have products sitting around without a home! I find my bits and pieces can often build up and accumulate on my desk, so I try and be ruthless as soon as they end up in my work area!

04. Add in greenery. Ok this is like my top life advice but I honestly think house plants just complete a room, especially if you like white walls and furniture. Having a low-maintenance pot plant on your desk will breath life in to a room in my opinion! They’re very calming and also very Pinterest.

05. Display all your trinkets. I’m all for having a pretty workspace, so although you want a clean, airy place to work, don’t feel like you have to tuck everything away. I can’t resist buying cute ornaments and having nice perfume bottles on display, so I just work out a way to place them nicely around the room. I also think stacking books and trays, with candles or other bits and pieces is a great way of making a room looking homely.

Do you have any tips for creating a happy work environment?
