The Marc by Marc Jacobs Girl is the Queen of Cool Once Again

I made my first ever designer purchase during my time at sixth form college, when I bought two Marc by Marc Jacobs tops in the Harvey Nichols sale. One was a slogan tee, which I donated to a charity shop a few years ago, and the other was a tomato-red ruffled blouse, which I still own. I remember being sooo excited by these purchases at the time, which proves how clever the Marc Jacobs business model is. The Marc by Marc line is an entry point into high fashion for many young girls, so they hook you into a relationship with the brand right at the start of your style journey.

However, in the last few years I haven’t given much thought to the label. Maybe it’s because the likes of Carven and Kenzo provided too much of a distraction, or it could just be a natural part of growing up. But both the Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter 2014 collections have reignited my love for Marc by Marc. There’s one particular dress in the SS14 line (below centre) that is actual perfection. It reminds me of Helena Christensen’s cool New York style.

And now that Luella Bartley and Katie Hillier are stationed at Marc by Marc Jacobs (AW14 was their first collection for the brand), I’m sure all the coolest girls in fashion will start parading around in the brand once again. Here are four buys from the SS14 collection which deserve some of your attention…

1. Silk crepe de chine dress | 2. Hail To The Queen Elizabeth handbag | 3. Printed silk trousers | 4. Double-strap sandals

Are you loving the look of Marc by Marc Jacobs’ S/S and A/W 2014 collections? And was the brand your first foray into designer fashion too?
