Eight Talking Points From the Burberry Prorsum SS15 Show

No matter what the season, I’m always excited about the Burberry Prorsum show at London Fashion Week. The Spring/Summer 2015 collection was presented yesterday lunchtime, and I’m happy to report it lived up to my high expectations. If you missed the livestream, or somehow managed to avoid the Instagram-mania that surrounded the show, here are the main talking points…

1. Belts: Newsflash! Belts are about to become a big deal. And not just any belts, I might add. Christopher Bailey and team accentuated the models’ waists with delicate layers of pleated tulle which were knotted in a typically carefree (yet totally perfect) fashion. Get down to your local haberdashery and create your own DIY version asap!

2. Trainers: There’s still a big push on practical footwear, and the Burberry Spring 2015 collection showcased two covetable styles. The opening looks were paired with squeaky clean white trainers, whilst the finale dresses were worn with ‘ugly’ sandals in a range of brights. Which are your favourites?

3. Beauty: The hair and makeup was typically British – meaning it looked totally effortless. The models walked the runway with undone, slightly kinky hair and wore natural, barely there makeup. The only splash of colour came in the form of a beautiful orangey-red lipstick.

4. The Front Row: Surprisingly Cara Delevingne wasn’t on the runway this season and instead sat front row, alongside her My Burberry campaign co-star, Kate Moss. I also spotted Paloma Faith (who performed at the AW14 show), Olivia Palermo, Cat Deeley and Naomie Harris.

5. Tulle: Remember the custom tulle dress which Suki Waterhouse wore to the Met Ball in May? Well Burberry have reinvented it for SS15 (where it was worn by Jourdan Dunn), and it was one of many flirty, floaty and overly-feminine tulle pieces to hit the catwalk. Unsurprisingly I want every single one!

6. Fifty Shades of Vogue: Dakota Johnson, AKA Anastasia Steele from Fifty Shades of Grey, sat front row alongside the American Vogue team. So naturally I’m now wondering whether a cover is in the works for early-2015 and if Dakota will wear Burberry for the films’ world premiere.

7. Outerwear: It wouldn’t be the Burberry show without some seriously juicy outerwear, would it? For SS15 the hot styles include waist-skimming denim jackets and cropped shearling numbers with neat little collars. The famous Burberry trench coat was given a new-season makeover, appearing in denim, suede and hand-painted styles.

8. James Bay: Burberry don’t do anything by halves, as you know, so instead of playing a soundtrack they invite artists to perform during their shows. This season it was the turn of James Bay, a 23-year-old musician from Hertfordshire.

Did you enjoy the Burberry Spring 2015 show? Which looks are your favourites? And stay tuned for more LFW coverage coming later this week.
