My Style: A Game of Chess

Don’t hate me, but until recently I’d never understood the hype surrounding Harry Potter (I think I’ve mentioned this before, along with my distaste for Twilight). Wizards and vampires just aren’t my jam. However, a few weeks ago I experienced a sudden and unexpected urge to read J. K. Rowling’s blockbuster books, and I’ve just finished Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. And, as a result, I’ll never be able to walk through the lobby of St Martins Lane hotel in London – where these images were shot – without thinking of the Chessboard Chamber.

This was one of my London Fashion Week outfits, but I was too much of a chicken to actually wear it to a show. I mean, in most cases you’d be more dressed up than the models on the runway, and that’s just downright weird! So instead I wore the dramatic ball skirt around The LFW Apartment (which was stationed at the hotel), pranced around for 40 minutes or so and then slipped back into my low-key leather trousers and tank top.

I’m Wearing: H&M skirt c/o available from October (try Tibi for similar shapes) | ASOS top | Christian Louboutin heels (a past-season sample sale buy, I’m afraid) | Russell & Bromley bag (LFW borrow)

I actually couldn’t believe my eyes when I spotted this floral skirt in the H&M showroom (it hits stores next month and is £69.99). It doesn’t look like a high street design whatsoever, and everyone who asked me where it was from was stunned by the answer. The only problem is it makes a real statement, and I’m not sure where one wears such a “look at me” outfit. All suggestions are warmly welcomed…

Do you rate this outfit? Are you shocked to discover the skirt is by H&M? And how would you style it?
