Painted Ceramics Workshop at The Makers Hub

On Saturday, I went to The Makers Hub in Macquarie for ceramic painting workshop. I have never painted a ceramic before…. I think…. so it’s nice to learn something new in such a beautiful venue. Read more about The Makers’ Hub, the workshop and more photos after the jump.

There are so many blank potteries to choose from; fishy tea light holder, these birdies, penguin plate, or you can also paint your own design on plates, bowls, cheese boards and mugs. It is not a surprise that I chose the cute penguin plate :)

Colourful paints are supplied

Painting ceramics is not as easy as I thought. The paint doesn’t glide as easily as acrylic or gouache. Before the paint was dry, I could see brush streaks on the pottery surface, and I was worried that it’s going to stay that way. However, when it was dry, the paint start to blend with the base. Also, we have to wait until the paints are completely dry before next application. So patience is definitely needed ;)

The Makers’ Hub is a venue own by Mikaela Danvers, blogger and creator of The Makers’ Collective (used to be Canberra Creatives). If you’re a maker (designer, crafter, creator), you should totally find out more about The Makers’ Collective and what they are doing.

The venue itself is just stunning! The hand-lettered words on the wall were painted by Jessie Miles from In The Daylight (ex-An April Idea), an artist based in Brisbane. The Makers’ Hub is a drop-in studio, where makers can come in and spend time on their project. They provide us with table, chair, tea, coffee and resources such as 3d machine, laser printer, badge maker, cameo machine, letterpress machine, screen printing equipment… and many more. Plus, having Mikaela and/or Nicole as your working buddies is a bonus point, because they are so fun!

Okay, enough of me telling you about what The Makers’ Hub is all about. You should go check out their blog, and drop by if you’re in Canberra!

FYI: This post is not sponsored in any way by The Makers’ Collective. I went to the painted ceramics workshop because I felt like doing something fun and making something that’s not work-related. I wrote this post because I think The Makers Hub is totally rad.
