Meet Team SCA

Have you heard of the Ocean Boat Race? With the 2014/15 race due to start in just 2 days (4th October) it is time to get behind your team and here on Life in a Break Down – I will be following the progress of one very special team.

Team SCA

2014/2015 sees Team SCA take to the water, they are the first all woman’s team to take part in over a decade and they are the first all woman’s team ever to have been put together in the same way as most of the men’s teams.

In fact over 250 athletes from around the world signed up to be part of Team SCA with the journey of putting the perfect sailing team together beginning in 2012. Skipping forward to 2014 Team SCA now comprises of 11 sailors and 1 non-sailing multimedia reporter who will actually be taking to the water as part of team SCA come race time. There are a few stipulations when it comes to racing, as well as having to make sure each crew has a certain number of members, with at least two sailing members under the age of 30.

The final sailors represent some of the best of offshore sailors in the world, featuring woman who have previously partaken in many different races, including the Olympics. This team sees citizens from Great Britain, USA, Switzerland, Australia and The Netherlands join forces to take on this mammoth challenge. Which sees them sailing a total of 38.739 nautical miles, calling at 11 ports in 11 different countries. This isn’t just one race but 9 which take place between October 4th 2014 and June 2015.

Personally I am looking forward to seeing how Team SCA do and will be keeping up to date with all the news as they travel from Europe though Africa, Asia, Australasia finally America and I hope you will enjoy keeping up on all the news with me.

Before they set sail why not watch this video and get to know Team SCA.
