To my 21 year old self

Dear Me,

Things have been hard.. Scratch that they have been impossible – I look back and wonder how I made it, I never thought I was a strong person, but surviving through that was strong, living endless days of darkness and not knowing what would happen, then getting away, you are strong.

I thought about writing to my younger self – I could pass off warnings save myself the hurt – but who would I be if it hadn’t happened, could I fight my mental health the way I do now, I just don’t know. So I decided on you..

This years going to be hard, there will be times you want to go back, I mean at least you knew what to expect even if it was bad. But, not knowing, not crying, it is worth it I promise.

The next few years will be filled with lots of you time as you come to re-find who you are, you get to try out all those things you often wondered about such as learning to read the tarot, you become a youth ranger and learn to cut down trees, you help out at the wildlife centre with the kids sessions.

Excitingly you get to meet your birth family and that helps piece together things you have wondered about for all those years.

You get to shop, eat a lot of dessert and spend time with those you love.

I’m not going to tell you everything after all you need some surprises, but when times get hard, just remember you can do it – it isn’t going to be sweetness and roses all the time but your life is just starting again and you have so much to look forward to.

So please whenever you want to give up, don’t – there is too many things just waiting to happen.
