Meet My Love

“There is no formula to relationships. They have to be negotiated in loving ways, with room for both parties, what they want and what they need, what they can do and what their life is like. In business, people negotiate to win. They negotiate to get what they want. Maybe you’re too used to that. Love is different. Love is when you are as concerned about someone else’s situation as you are about your own.” ― Morrie Schwartz

A while back we did a video for Addition Elle called #meetmylove. I've always been really hesitant about talking about my personal life for many reasons. People get invested in it, start shedding their opinions, I get really protective about loved ones, and I was also worried that I'd be in a relationship and it not last, then here everyone's asking questions that I don't want to answer.

Despite all of that, I wanted to do this video because I think it is important to talk about love, especially in a time where so many people don't invest in it. It seems like relationships are obsolete and have become very much about hooking up with no emotion so I think it's important to focus on love when you can. I always think about Drake's lyrics "We live in a generation of, not being in love, and not being together, but we sure make it feel like we're together." My parents have been together almost 30 years and seeing them and what they have always made me want the same for myself. Before we got together, I was really hesitant because I'd tell myself I wasn't ready for a relationship, that I'm focused on my career. I didn't want to put emotion into something that wasn't guaranteed. No relationships was guaranteed for me, on the other hand, my career was. I had so many past relationships fail, it's hard for me to trust people, and you never know anyone's full intentions. I'd come up with excuses like "I'm focused on my career", which there was some truth behind it but I slowly realized that if you really want to make something work, you will. I made my career work, I can make a relationship work, it just has to be the right person. You can have all the success in the world but having someone to share it with was something I lacked. I needed someone who uplifted me, had the same values as me, wanted similar things in life, and someone I can constantly learn from and build together instead of holding each other down. I think we all need that, I think we all want and need real, genuine love. If not, then at least to experience it once. So big thank you to Addition Elle for focusing on this! Such a great concept! xx

Also, I just have to say that I know I say I don't like romance in the video, some of it is needed though! You have to have some sort of romance, I just don't like the overly gushy kind that is weird like serenading to me from a balcony playing the guitar, which has almost happened to me in the past.
