Toddler Tales (27): Colour Play

One of my goals this year was to do more activities with Little Dude. We've been doing many things to keep us busy, but I haven't posted about them because they don't always turn out as intended! The last time I made salt dough for him, the little guy used it for water play. It was pretty messy, and I guess, a lot of fun for him! Anyhow, my belief is that the real joy is in the process, rather than the end result. At 29 months, Little Dude's play is geared towards exploration, so there is no 'artwork' to show!

I've never given him paints to play with, though he has started using crayons. Today, I decided to make some quick finger paint using this Rainbow Flour Paint recipe for inspiration. It is supposed to be finger paint, but I also gave him brushes, and he preferred to use them instead of his hands! He did dip his hands in the paint later, but didn't quite like doing it. Then I remembered having bought a finger painting kit quite some time ago, and it had these nice foam shapes. He liked stamping patterns with those. After that, we tried doing 'car painting' (another idea I recalled from Pinterest!) and he had fun dipping the car in paint and then drawing with it on the paper.

There was more fun to follow, because he enjoyed helping me wash the supplies! I also found a recipe for longer lasting finger paint made with corn starch, and I'll give it a try next time.

(Toddler Tales are snippets of what I'm learning every day from my little one.)
