Toddler Tales (30): Train Ride

Little Dude loves trains. We find them everywhere in Dubai. Whenever we visit a park, we usually take a ride on the mini train (Creek Park and Mushrif Park have wonderful rides). There are also these little trains that run inside malls, I'm not quite sure what they are called, but they are generally small enough for kids, although adults can ride along too.

Well, recently, we were on another mall outing and Little Dude wanted to ride the little train. I usually accompany him on these rides, but this time my husband suggested he ride by himself, and Little Dude was more than willing!

I must say I was a little taken aback! When did my baby become old enough to take a ride on his own? I was worried he'd change his mind once we were out of sight. It wasn't a long route really, just two rounds in the main atrium. But I couldn't let go of my anxiety. I felt like I was sending him off to school or something! Now I know many kids his age (he's almost three) can manage well on their own, but even with his assertions of independence, he's still quite attached to me. That's why I was nervous. But he proved me wrong!

He not only calmly sat by himself in the train car, he had a great ride, waving to us each time he passed by. Nothing else could have really hit home the point that my little toddler is growing up. And thoughts of preschool still make me nervous, but I know I have to accept what's only a natural part of growing up. Sometimes, our children are ready to grow up faster than we are ready to let them go.

(Toddler Tales are snippets of what I'm learning every day from my little one.)
