Lovely Letters

I’ve always loved receiving letters in the post, when I was a little girl I had several penpals. I would be so excited when the postman arrived with a letter for me! My girls are the same now, they love receiving ‘snail mail’. In this age of modern technology, when it’s so easy to send an email, a text message or a facebook message, It’s even more special to receive an actual letter through the post. I still have penfriends now, I love sitting and writing long letters to them, and eagerly await their replies. Nothing beats the feeling of opening that envelope, and curling up to read the words that they have written. I’m not the only one who thinks so either, the lovely Erin, whom I’ve known for several years after meeting through our blogs, loves snail mail too and is looking to spread a little love through her letters:

“I lost my grandmother just before Christmas and since then I haven’t been writing in my blog very much, as I’ve been too upset. I first started blogging about two and a half years ago and I have enjoyed sharing my life with others. I have spoken to a lot of wonderful people along the way.

A few weeks ago I read an article in the newspaper about a woman who has started writing letters of appreciation to strangers. I was really taken with the idea – and then it struck me – instead of moping around being sad all the time, I could do something similar. I don’t know about anyone else, but in this electronic ago of email, social networking and instant messaging I rarely receive any mail through the post, so on the odd occasion that I do it’s a real treat.

My Nana used to love writing to people and I know that they used to love hearing from her. She was also well known for writing poetry for people who were going through a tough time, sometimes she’d write them a verse or two, well, just…..because.

I can’t promise that I’ll be able to come up with any poems as I haven’t inherited her gift of rhyme but I would love to send some kind words to anyone, or anyone you might know who wishes to receive them.

If you would like to receive some snail mail from Erin, or you know someone who would appreciate some love through the mail, please drop Erin a message.
