songs for preschoolers and a walking foot

When my little sister was a toddler, I remember us listening to a lot of Hap Palmer music. If you have young children, I highly recommend this classic artist. Anyway, the other day I spotted an old book for one of his songs, which put that music into my head, and then one thing led to another. You know how that happens, right?

Where was I? Oh yes. One of his songs is about walking, and specifically learning to walk. And I got this new walking foot.

Most of the sewing I do is on my mom's sewing machine, so I special ordered the part for her machine from the Viking Sewing Center in my local JoAnn store. Everyone in the world must have had the same idea as I did, because it took over two months for the foot to arrive instead of the estimated two weeks.

When I placed the order, I was ready to jump in and do some quilting. Apparently the time waiting caused me to become a little nervous and I haven't even attached it to the sewing machine yet. But like a toddler learning to walk, I'm sure I can do this.

My goal for today is to use this fabric for some practice quilting. And perhaps I'll even manage to make it into something! My mom has a birthday just before the 4th of July, and even setting aside the patriotic, the colors will work in our kitchen. So I'm hoping for pot holders/trivets, I think.

If it goes really well, you might even get a little project tutorial out of it! Here's hoping I learn to walk today!
