Austin to Celebrate Texas-Sized Pittie Pride


Austin, Texas is known as one of the most Fido-friendly spots in the nation, and for three days in October all pals to those with paws are invited to a celebrate their dogged devotion to canines who often find themselves unfairly hounded by prejudice as Love-A-Bull hosts the sixth annual Texas-Sized Pittie Pride Parade and Festival.

Prom is the theme for this year’s event, and animal lovers can kick off the festivities by raising their glasses in a toast to our four-legged friends at a Pre-Prom Happy Hour held at Opal Divine’s Penn Field. A portion of the food and drink sales will benefit Love-A-Bull, and there will be a Bow Wow Bones food truck for our barking buddies in attendance.

When: October 24, 2014 from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.

VIP Prom Night

A fundraising event for human party animals only, revelers age 21 and over can relive their high school days as they kick up their heels to toe-tapping tunes, sip cocktails, nibble tasty treats, place bids in a silent auction and strike a pose in prom attire for a souvenir photo. Attendees who have put on the dog (so to speak) can show off their prom wear in a costume contest, all for the sake of Spots in need.

When: October 25, 2014 form 7 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Where: The Palm Door on Sixth at 508 East 6th Street in Austin, Texas

Parade and Festival

Pet parents and their four-pawed pals can promenade behind this year’s Pittie Prom King and Queen and Grand Marshals The Pit Crew (one of America’s fist all-Pit Bull therapy dog groups) during the Prom Parade of Pit Bulls and Friends– a canine constitutional up Congress Avenue.

Fans of Fidos can follow the parade to Republic Square Park for the Pittie Pride Festival, which will include a Pittie kissing booth, live music, a Frisbee dog demonstration, a Q&A with trainers, a silent auction, rescue groups, an array of products for both people and pets, and much more.

Celebrity Spotting

Star of the movie The Dog Fighter, retired Mixed Martial Artist/animal advocate Gordon “Shotgun” Shell is scheduled to make an appearance at the festival.

When: October 26, 2014 (Parade assembles at 11:30 a.m.; festival runs from 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.)

Where: Parade leaves from the Austin American Statesman parking lot and travels along Congress Avenue tondo Fourth Street to Republic Square Park. The Pittie Pride Festival takes place at Republic Square Park at 422 Guadalupe Street in downtown Austin, Texas
