Saint Laurent F/W '14

And...he does it again. Hedi Slimane has created yet another iconic menswear collection for Saint Laurent. Slimane showed his collection yesterday in Paris, and it of course was heavily influenced by rock and roll, this time clearly more of a rockabilly aproach, far less 80s inspired than his spring collection. It is remarkable how Slimane can take something we've definitely seen before, but make it undeniably cool again. He does this for both womenswear and menswear, but in my opinion, he is a true menswear designer. I seem to covet his menswear clothing way more than what he creates for the ladies.

The collection consisted mainly of classic skinny stovepipe pants worthy of Bobby Gillespie, and sent out his typical leather jackets, coats, button-ups, and perfect shoes, the best pair being a green pair of monk strap leather creepers. Needless to say, everything was extremely detailed and reinvented, beaded blazer, fur-embellished leather jackets, mixed prints, and the like. Of course, he had the coolest boys wearing the clothes too, like two boys of a local band I'm familiar with, Froth. Hedi Slimane is definitely appealing to younger people these days rather than critics, but I don't think that is what matters to him. He is doing something that no other designer is doing right now which makes him stand out to me. Can't wait to see what he sends down the runway in February for F/W '14 womenswear.
