Web App: Hell is Other People

I'm that rare bread of social media strategist that gets somewhat meh when it comes to too much hype around social media. I actually do not want to share everything in my life, and can't really tolerate people who do. Because you know sometimes, enough is enough. And although I'm a total people person, it's always on my own terms -- I'm a bit of a satelite, I come and go as I please -- my one party trick is the Irish goodbye. Considering all of these weird anti-social traits (and the fact that Jean Paul Sartre' saying is a fave of mine) you'll understand my delight when I heard about the 3rd party FourSquare app Hell is Other People. Hell is Other People was designed by Scott Garner using FourSquare's and Google's API. Scott's explanation for creating it?
"This project is partially a satire, partially a commentary on my disdain for “social media”, and partially an exploration of my own difficulties with social anxiety."

Sadly Hell is Other People only works if your friends are on FourSquare (many of those I would like to avoid I do not follow, for obvious reasons), and actually checking in. Still the concept, and visuals are enough to keep me smiling and rooting for the next version. Perhaps it will expand to Facebook check-ins? We can only hope.
