Monumental Love: It’s the Little Things

Raise your hand if you love detail posts! Really? Me too!

It’s fun wrapping up how some of my buys, crafts, and ideas turned out, and I hope it’s enjoyable for you, too. Today we’ll be talking about a lot of my accessories—basically anything that was in the hotel room with me the morning of (I’ve got another post lined up later for details featured at the reception). It’s been a while since I’ve been able to obsess over teensy little details, so excuse me for the extended explanations on some of these photos!

A couple of weeks out, I started a tote bag dedicated to all these little photo prop items to make sure that nothing got left behind. When we got to the hotel, I laid everything out on the desk in the bedroom of the suite, and that was the first place Sandra started taking photos when she arrived. It was nice to have everything set aside and not have to run around looking for things I wanted included. That way, I could just let her do her thing and continue on with the getting-ready process.

Of course some of the most important photos to grab were “The Somethings”:

Something Old: I’ve mentioned it a time or two, but I wore my mother’s veil from my parents’ wedding 30 years before. I loved that it just had sprinklings of lace appliques throughout the cathedral length, which meant it wasn’t too overwhelming with all the other lace I had on.

Something New: For some reason I’ve always thought that using your wedding dress as your something new was cheating, so I’d like to single out my gorgeous Jimmy Choos as my something new (even though I first wore them to my shower and bridal portraits—whatever, there aren’t “something police” out there). I bought these on trip to New York City with my mom, sister, and nanny, so they hold a lot of special memories for me—and I’ve been able to wear them again them since the wedding!

Something Borrowed: Nanny (my aunt and godmother) provided my something borrowed—these gorgeous diamond chandelier earrings. Uncle E gave them to her for her birthday a few months before the wedding, and she immediately said I could use them. Was I a bit terrified that one would fall out during the day? You betcha. But they didn’t, and they looked beautiful and I’m so happy she let me borrow!

Something Blue: “I Do” shoe stickers given to me by my sister, MOH Curls. As you can see, I went with “I” on the left foot, and “Do” on the right, which had obviously been plaguing me so since I first wrote about it so long ago (#sarcasm). Actually, I wound up with another item that could have counted for my something blue or something old later on, but you’ll just have to stay tuned for that!

I love that all of my somethings revolve around the ladies of my family, because their love and support is something I treasure greatly. Which is why I wanted to make sure we got some pictures of the wedding rings of the women of my family. We did this at my bridal photo session, which was a great idea. This way, we didn’t have to worry about keeping track of the rings on the morning of the wedding.

Speaking of rings, I requested that Sandra get some of our rings with the a pretty special backdrop.

Sphinx Dad has a huge record collection, including all of the original Beatles albums. Our first dance song, “P.S. I Love You” was first released as the B-side to the “Love Me Do” single in the U.K. in 1962, and was included on their debut album “Please Please Me” in 1963. It didn’t find its way to the U.S. until the 1964 album “Introducing…The Beatles,” and was also included on the 1965 record “The Early Beatles,” Sphinx Dad lent us the album covers for “Please Please Me” and “The Early Beatles.” Using these inspired me to do a little bit of research on the releases, so I definitely feel more connected to our song choice, and it was just a neat little way to inject some history and his dad’s interests into some of these detail photos.

Although we don’t have any photos of it, I had “P.S. I Love You 5-31-2014″ engraved on the inside of Sphinx’s ring. My ring didn’t have much space at all, but there was enough room for the date so that’s what we did.

I had a hanger to match the ones I bought for the girls, from Etsy seller twobroadsdesign. No problems with them except that I was missing one hanger in my order when it first arrived, but that was solved quickly enough. I have no idea what to do with it now, but it was pretty way to display my dress and bolero.

Our florist, Claire, arrived with the bouquets before I got my makeup done—and they had to drag me away from them when it was my turn to go sit in the chair. I absolutely love how the flowers turned out, and I even feel like the pictures don’t do them enough justice. I had a hard time finding the perfect inspiration bouquet (imagine that), so I sent Claire plenty of example pictures with descriptions like “about this much white” and “this amount of texture.” She put it all together and knocked it out of the park.

I think all of my meticulous flower inspiration paid off, though, since this bouquet is absolutely what I envisioned in my head: various shades of pink and purple, a bit of white, some green flowers and berries, and loads of texture without not looking too messy. I gave Claire a list of the flowers I loved (and didn’t love) with the understanding that exactly what I would see on the wedding day would come down to what was available for her to order. It wasn’t a big deal to me that the roses were pink, the callas were lavender, and the orchids green—I just wanted all the colors and types in there somehow. So there’s a takeaway for yo—have a vision, do your best to share that vision with your vendors, but in the end trust the professionals and they’ll come through.

The bridesmaids bouquets had similar colors and flowers to mine, but they were a bit smaller and had no white flowers.

Sandra reminded me in an email the week of the wedding to make sure to bring our invitations—ha, like I’d forget these guys!

I feel like I love our invite set even more after the wedding, because what we put together truly matched what we were able to execute for the wedding day.

We bought the little ring box in Magic Kingdom after Sphinx proposed—the fireworks over the castle representing when he popped the question, and the back of the box has Tinker Bell (one of my favorite characters), so it was pretty perfect. The “Just Married!” button is one that Disney World used to give out to newlyweds. I grabbed this one years ago when I worked there, after I heard they were being discontinued (now they offer a “Happily Ever After” button), so I was glad to be able to feature them in a picture.

I waited a little longer than I should have to order my garter (from GarterQueen on Etsy), because I kept tossing around the idea of making something that was a perfect blend of the pretty lace and rhinestones, with some LSU decal or charms—and then decided it didn’t matter that much and ordered one. I requested the little tiara charm on the toss garter, because why not? Like I mentioned in my last post, I didn’t keep them on very long because the rhinestones were really heavy and the garter kept slipping down my leg. So if you get a style like mine, size down a bit!

I didn’t wear the pyramid necklace on the wedding day, but I just wanted it there for some photos. I found it on Etsy earlier this year and showed it to Sphinx, so he bought it for me for Valentine’s Day.

I meant to discuss my wedding day perfume but never got around to it. Could be because I picked it out one week before the wedding! In a very non-Pyramid fashion (no research, no polling of the bridesmaids), I just went to Sephora and sniffed a few and picked out the Roses de Chloe scent. I liked that it was a little different than my everyday perfumes, and it lasted through a workout right after my trip to the mall, so I figured it would hold up well on the wedding day. I love the scent and reserve it for special occasions now.

When I ordered my dress, I requested the buttons to be added to the back of my dress, so that the dress would blend in with the back of my bolero.

And last, but not least, I’ve got to show off these little guys:

These bees have been carried by Meerkat, Jaguar, Biscuit, Bacon, Cannon, Funnel Cake, Sunhat, Petit Four, Castle, Elk, Wizard, Unicorn, Cauldron, Potion, Armadillo, Mongoose, Panda, Campfire, and Road Trip. Mrs. Road Trip actually took the time to make a lovely photo album with pictures of each Bee who had these charms, and I added in our picture before sending them on to Mrs. Barn. The bees are nestled up against my maw maw’s rosary, and every time I looked down at the stem of my bouquet, I smiled.

And that’s all the pretty little details I have for you today! I love the idea of mixing these photos in with the rest of our pictures to make up a very comprehensive wedding album—you know, when we actually get around to putting together that album!
