Once again, always ask ... never know

Rev. Frederick Starr, Jr. born - January 23, 1826 died - January 9, 1867 1st cousin 4x removed of husband From the Missouri Historical Review 58 (April 964): 309-25 Used by permission of the State Historical Society of Missouri
We all spend hours upon hours online searching for those family history gems. What do you do when something wonderful is unearthed?
One of the most important lessons I learned over the years --- "always ask, you never know!"

With that piece of wisdom in mind, I am reaching out to the webmasters on websites. Sending an email with the following:

* Introduce myself.
* Give a brief overview of my research.
* Explain how I am related to the subject of the photograph, article, etc.
* Ask permission to use information in either this blog or family database.
* Thank the recipient of the email in advance for the assistance.
I am pleased to say, many have responded with positive results. They are happy to comply, with the request that I give credit and link back to their site.
This happened once again over the weekend.

Several months ago I discovered this photograph of my husband's ancestor. Also, an interesting article entitled "Frederick Starr A Missouri Border Abolitionist: The Making of a Martyr" by Milton E. Bierbaum
Sunday I decided to email the State Historical Society of Missouri with a request to use the article in a blog post. Monday afternoon I received the following response.
"You can use the article in your family history blog. Please credit: From the Missouri Historical Review 58 (April 964): 309-25. Used by permission of the State Historical Society of Missouri. I’m glad you found the essay helpful."
Shout of joy could be heard far and wide!
Friends --- always ask! The community is full of people ready to help and share.
Thank you to Lynn Wolf Gentzler, Associate Director, The State Historical Society of Missouri. Our family's genealogy angel.
