DIY Chalkboard Painted Bed

Hey there Blissfully Ever After readers! My name is Kenzie and I’m the new Craft Contributor and am so excited to begin sharing my love for crafting with you. You can find me blogging over at The Ashcraft Bunch, I’d love for you to stop over and say hi! I have had this {bed}room furniture since I was about 12 and my parents gave it to us when we got married. It is Attic Heirlooms and it is super nice furniture. However, I was getting tired of the wood look. I am all into the painting furniture trend. My aunt and I picked up a can of CeCe Caldwell’s one day when we were shopping. I used it first on my front door and loved it so much I decided to paint this bed that will be going in our guestroom. Today, I’m going to show you a step by step tutorial on how to- DIY Chalkboard Painted Bed. Supplies I Used: 1 Quart of CeCe Caldwell’s Natural Chalk Clay paint in Vermont Slate Decent Paint Brush Half Liter of CeCe Caldwell’s Satin Finish Two Sawhorses
To start off, I wiped off every surface of the headboard and foot board. I didn’t sand this furniture down any because it already had a distressed look.
Next, I applied the paint on evenly. The paint goes A LONG way. Let dry for 2-4 hours {in my case I let it dry 1 hour because I am in the Oklahoma heat and it didn’t take long} But, do as they say not as I did ok? Next I added my second coat of paint to make sure it covered every inch well and gave it a little darker color. {It will dry much lighter than when wet} Let dry.
Lastly I applied a thin coat of satin finish for my durable topcoat. This gave my furniture a little shine but not too much while sealing the paint. I used this satin finish on my front door but also used their wax after, that is why my front door looks a little more rough and distressed. You can do either but I chose not to for the bed.
The topcoat wasn’t fully dried in this photo but you can see that it adds a little shine.
The before and after! I love how it turned out. If you have any questions about CeCe’s if you decide to try it do not hesitate to email me. I love this product and will be posting more products of other things I will be using it for. I hope you enjoyed this little project. It literally took me an afternoon to complete and was really easy to do. Have a great day! If you see this on Pinterest, pin away!
