Dark Side of the Moon

I'm in love with the Gothic beauty captured in these photographs. Although not traditional in the Gothic genre, it is pretty clear that this outfit bears a perhaps more bohemian inspired yet distinctly dark vibe. Any ensemble that boasts a rosary and corset certainly identifies as Gothic in my book.
Growing up, I was typically enamored of more vibrant hues. I prided myself on the concoction of colorful (sometimes even garish) ensembles and shunned those who seemingly lacked creativity with their noir apparel. It has only been within the past few years that my taste has veered towards the darker side of the fashion spectrum. Rest assured, I have not abandoned my love of color. However, I have learned to more dramatically utilize the benefits of color in contrast to more subtle and neutral hues. An outfit entirely composed of bright pieces can certainly garner some attention, but combine one or two colorful pieces with a black palate and the results will be much more elegant and statement making.
A word of random yet semi-related advice: invest in black maxi skirts. Seriously, they are the best. Some people may consider jeans a staple outfit item, but a black maxi skirt reigns supreme as a reliable basic in my book. Black maxi skirts are perfect for pairing with bold blouses or flowing draped jackets and statement jewelry. As of now, my wardrobe holds five black maxi skirts of varying design and texture. (One is an A-line polyester blend, one is a fishtail stretch jersey, one is plain velvet, one is embroidered velvet with side slits, and one is velvet with a fishtail hem and floral applique.) Pair 'em with black items for an elusive Gothic look or brights for more contrast. Just a slapdash tip from my convoluted mind.
Sweet dreams!
