Why me?

Have you ever asked yourself why was I the one to lose my husband? I have asked myself that question many times over the last 7 years. We have all seen those elderly couples and wonder why they are still together when I am alone.
Why am I being punished? Did I offend God or the universe in some way? Is this payback for something that I did or didn't do? Those kind of questions roll through my mind, especially when it is a holiday or a time when I could really use my husband's support.
I think we all know that there is no answer to the "Why me?" question. There might be reasons people get sick and die but that type of rational conversation does not really answer my question. Maybe it's bad luck or maybe it's bad karma but I know for sure I don't know why me and not someone else. Don't get me more wrong, I wouldn't wish widowhood on anyone. It is a difficult and lonely life.
I guess better questions to be asking myself are "What now?" and "Why not?" At least those questions have answers.
